Fights, stabbings and frequent gunfire sound like a description of the Old West.
This is a sad reality for the law abiding residents of Town Creek Square Apartments in West Point. So much so that West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley is treating the small complex’s violence problems as an issue of public safety.
“We recognize that we have a public safety issue with Town Creek Apartments,” Brinkley said on Friday, just after talking to the apartment’s management “We have strived to work with the complex managers to make that apartment complex a safer environment for the residents.”

In the early hours of Friday morning, the West Point Police Department responded to three separate domestic disturbances at Town Creek Square Apartments.
The second incident resulted in a laceration wound on individual, and a warrant has been issued for Lantra Haughton for aggravated assault.
West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley said on Friday that the initial call was put in just after midnight, and it was pertaining to a disturbance and a man lying on the ground at the rear of the apartment.

WPHS got a jump on all the paperwork needed for the students to begin the 2012-2013 school year.
Parent Orientation was held at the North Campus for the entire high school. Lines were long at each of the 13 different tables requiring signatures from parents, students names, the grade the child was entering and all sorts of information needed at the beginning of each school year.
Proof of residency was a requirement this year for every student. Two forms of I.D. were needed to assure that children are enrolled in the correct school district.

The new Deacon in Charge of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation comes originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, to New York, New York, to West Point.
Deacon John Kellogg and his wife Tait, feel almost that they have come full circle back home. He is from Shreveport, La., and she comes from Pensacola, Fla. They met while attending The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church, in New York, N.Y.

There are those instance when criminals pluck up the nerve to point their weapon at sworn officers of the law, who may find themselves in a situation where they're threatened by not one but maybe two or more firearms from offenders.
In situations such as these, shotguns play a critical role in the protection of a law enforcement officer's life, and Monday evening officers with the West Point Police Department trained for the first time with their new shotguns, issued to them through a grant, that all officers will possess while on duty.

After almost a seven hour deliberation Saturday in Clay County Circuit Court, 23-year-old Rashawn Ivy was found not guilty of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend Whitney Lenoir, but the jury was hung as to the charge alleging that Ivy tried to kill Lenoir.

Sally Kate Winters Park is the place to be Saturday evening. The event kicks of at 5 p.m. with registration for the Fun Run and 5K. At 5:30 the Kids Fun Run starts with a bang, follow by the 5K Run at 6 p.m. Inflatables will be there for the kids, food and drink vendors and entertainment by the Church Hill Cherubs, Betty Deans Dance Group and the First Baptist Church JAM Praise Team. It promises to be a fun night for the entire family. This is the third year for Light Up the Night, Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness with SKW Family Services.

The heated question was raised by several concerned citizens and parents Thursday night who demand an answer as to why the Clay County School Board is allegedly not renewing Murray's principal contract for the upcoming school year.

And parents and community leaders are striving each day, putting their heads together to come up with ways to make West Point a better place for children to live and grow with their parents, many of which need a loving, helping hand in raising their children.
