At 6’2 210-pounds, the sophomore first baseman followed up his stellar freshman campaign with an even better second year at East Mississippi Community College.
It was enough to have four-year colleges calling, but in the end Bohon this month decided to join William Carey University in Hattiesburg.
A product of Oak Hill Academy, Bohon quickly made a good first impression, batting .311 while leading the EMCC Lions with seven home runs, 12 doubles and 33 RBI.

Local rider barrels her way to victory at annual race

July 1, 2011

It might seem pretty intimidating for an athlete to compete against hundreds of others in any sport, all trying to win the same championship. For local barrel racer Sara Kate MaIlwain, it wasn’t too nerve racking.

McIlwain beat out over 100 riders in her class from across the country at the 10th annual All-American Barrel Race at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center in Jackson last month in one of the country’s best competitions. Over 600 riders were on hand for the three-day event.

June 29, 2011

Dontavious Bennett was like any other kid growing up in West Point; he played football and baseball and hung out with his friends. But even that wasn’t enough to keep him grounded.

“He still had all this energy, always running around wanting to kick me,” his mother Tamika Bennett recalls. “He was full of energy, always busy, so we figured we’re going to put this to use. We met his sensai, Master Nash at a baseball game and asked if he was still doing the school. He said yes, so we told him we’re going to bring our boy down. And he’s been doing it ever since.”
