West Point Team Finishes Fifth Tourney

On Saturday, the West Point 9-10 year old All-Stars finished the first inning of their game with Caledonia down 5-0.
"When we got down like that, we could have just given up," Coach Sherman Berry said. "But we chipped away and chipped away and scored enough to win."
The West Point team finished fifth out of 15 teams in the tournament.
The win Saturday put West Point in a Sunday afternoon game with Starkville.
Starkville took the contest 25-16.
"We had too many errors," Berry said.

Robert ‘Bob’ William Rutherford

Robert ‘Bob’ William Rutherford, age 92, passed away July 5, 2012, at West Point Community Living Center.
He was born in Inverness, May 20, 1920. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as an auto mechanic for many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Bobbie Hadley of Thomaston, Ga.; a sister, Hazel Gilbert of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time.

Prentice Brewer, age 89, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at his home, in Columbus.
Edgar Prentice Brewer was born April 29, 1923, in West Point to the late Geraldine Marguerite Russell Brewer and Edgar Prentice Brewer Sr. He was the retired superintendent of maintenance at B & W after 27 years service and a member
of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a cattleman and loved his working his old homeplace. Mr. Brewer was a wounded veteran of WW II in the U. S. Army having served 32 months in the 512th M.P. Battilion, part of Patton's 3rd Army.

Episcopal Church welcomes new leader

The new Deacon in Charge of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation comes originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, to New York, New York, to West Point.
Deacon John Kellogg and his wife Tait, feel almost that they have come full circle back home. He is from Shreveport, La., and she comes from Pensacola, Fla. They met while attending The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church, in New York, N.Y.

Robert L. “Bob” McHaney Jr. passed away June 17, 2012 at Regent care Center in Waco, Texas from cancer.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Funderburg officiating. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Kenji LeQuincy Sanders, age 34, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Arlington Memorial Hospital of Arlington, Texas.
Funeral services are Friday, June 22, 2012, at 1 p.m. from Mt. Zion M.B. Church of Brooksville, with Pastor Mack Young officiating. Burial will follow in Saunders Cemetery in Macon.
Visitation is today, from 3 - 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Sevices Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

W.D. Ivey, age 85, passed away, Sunday, June 17, 2012, at West Point Community Living Center.
W.D. Ivey was born May 11, 1927, in Clarke County, to the late Winnie Easter Sowers and
William Eugene Ivey. He was the owner and operator of W.D. Ivey's Garage in West Point for 53 years. He attended
Fellowship Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II. W.D. Ivey married Elvie Estelle Runion Ivey April 30, 1945, in Meridian. She passed away May 24, 2009.
