A.K. Tribble

A.K. Tribble, age 89, of West Point, died Friday June 17, 2011, at West Point Community Living Center.
A.K. Tribble was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Cedar Bluff, to the late Leona Williams and A. K. Tribble Sr. He served in the USMC 6th Marine Division and was a veteran of WWII. He was a business man and former owner of West Point Flower Shop. Mr. Tribble was a member of First Presbyterian Church, EPC and a Mason, Masonic Lodge # 40.

West Point set to host Dizzy Dean softball tourney

Preparations are underway here in West Point as the town gets ready to host a 2011 Dizzy Dean state softball tournament in July.

The eight-team field, representing Fulton, Bruce, Mathison, Louisville, Aberdeen, Eupora and Saltillo, starts July at the Jesse W. Harmon Sports Complex. The winner will advance to the 2011 World Series held at Green Book Park in Southaven.

Preparations are underway for all the necessities needed to host a tournament of this size including field preparation, event staffing for concessions and tickets and umpires.

Girls rock out in annual summer cheerleading camp

Friends and family packed the West Point High School gymnasium Friday afternoon as over 300 cheerleaders performed various dance routines and cheers at the West Point Junior Cheerleaders summer day camp.

In all roughly 320 girls from grades K-3 to 6 worked one-on-one with several of the junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders throughout the week all in preparation to perform in front of a large crowd.

It was obvious how hard they worked judging by the enormous round of
applause.

Parker Selected for Governor's School

Zane Parker III, has been selected to participate in the 2011 session of the Mississippi's Governor's School. The Governor's School is a residential honors program established in 1981 by Governor William F. Winter at Mississippi University for Women. The Governor's School is designed to provide academic, creative and leadership experiences for a limited number of high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement in their studies and who show high intellectual, creative and leadership potential.

Braxtynn Rain Pruitt

Marlon and Laquante Pruitt of West Point, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Baxtynn Rain Pruitt, April 22, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center of West Point. Time of birth was 8:57 a.m., she weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Sanders and Ms. Dorothy Harris.
Paternal grandparents are Mrs. Wilderdean Pruitt and the late George Pruitt.
Great-grandparent is Shead Trimuel.
Welcoming home Braxtynn Rain is Cameron age 9.
The mother is the former Laquante Sanders.

Gladys B. Powell Elliott

Gladys B. Powell Elliott, age 88, of West Point, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
Gladys was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Clay County to the late Mattie Mae Andrews and William Raymond Blankenship. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point.

Investigators Handle Grand Larceny, Shoplifting Cases

23-year-old Quinton Hoskins of West Point was taken into custody Saturday by the West Point Police Department after admitting to stealing $3,000 from his grandmother's home on Crowell Street.
Mike Burgess, head of investigations for the WPPD, said 79-year-old Dorothy Goins called police and reported that the money was missing from her home. During the course of the investigation, detectives spoke with Hoskins and asked if he knew anything about the missing $3,000. After his Miranda rights were read to him, Hoskins admitted to officers that he took and spent the entire amount of money.

Visitation is at Midway M.B. Church, Saturday, June 18, 2011, from 10 a.m. until service time.

Lamontrail Dupree, age 37, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services are Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. from Third Mt. Olive M.B. Church, with the Rev. Al Latham Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of visitation, guests may sign the register book from noon – 5 p.m. today, at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
