West Point Parks and Rec to host halloween train ride

West Point's Parks and Recreation department is hosting a Spooky train ride, with free candy Monday at Rec Building at Marshall Park 6-8 pm!

Kids are encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy the ride before heading out for trick-or-treating.

Lady Eagles fall to reigning state champs Delta 49-40

Hebron Christian struggled offensively Thursday afternoon, losing a 10 point lead in the third quarter and eventually falling to Delta Academy 49-40 in the second round of the Winona Christian School pre-season tournament.

"It was just a poor shooting performance," head coach William Cotton said. "We were doing what we needed to do, just couldn't get the shots that we wanted."

"Hopefully this will be a little wake up call for us," he added. "This is a lesson learned early in the season."

Brian Keith Beckner, age 46, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at his residence.
Brian Keith Beckner was born Nov. 23, 1964, in Modesto, Calf., to Everett Beckner and the late Henrietta Bandy Kehuisen. He attended Riverside Baptist Church and was a mechanic for H & O Truck Repair, and loved to ride motorcycles.
Funeral services are Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. from Robinson Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Sallee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Delois Townsend, age 58, passed away in an automobile accident Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, in Houston.
Funeral services are Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at 2 p.m. from Lower Prairie Creek M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Lower Prairie Creek M.B. Church Cemetery.
Their will be no public visitation.

On the road again - West Point (4-1) heads to Oxford for crucial district battle

With just two games remaining in the 2011 regular season, the West Point High School football team finds itself in an unfamiliar position; trying to rebound from a division loss.

For the first time in three seasons, the Green Wave dropped a Division 1-5A contest last Friday night in a 30-29 heartbreaker at Center Hill.

Despite the loss, head coach Chris Chambless and his Wave have moved forward, insisting that all of their goals are still within reach.

Raiders have last chance for a victory Friday

Oak Hill academy will have one final shot tonight to try and erase their winless season when they host district newcomer Immanual Christian here in West Point.

It will be the second time this season the junior high players will be in the lineup, and despite a 21-6 loss last week to Kirk Academy, there has been a little spark for the 0-9 Raiders.

Bertha Mae Mosley, age 90, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at her home.

Nichols 24 points lead Lady Eagles over NSA 42-24

The Hebron Christian School girls basketball team went back to basics Wednesday afternoon to get their first win on the year at the Winona Christian School pre-season tournament, topping North Sunflower Academy 42-24.

"We just played plain basketball," head coach William Cotton said of his team's victory. "We brought up the court and fed it Tori (Nichols)."

Nichols, the squad's top-rebounder finished with a team high-24 points for the game as the Lady Eagles took a convincing 20-6 advantage into the locker room.

West Point's Kelsey Redus headed to state

West Point swimmer Kelsey Redus looks to make a splash this Saturday and bring home a state championship when she hits the pool at the 2011 MHSAA state championships held at the Delta State University Aquatic Center in Cleveland.

Redus qualified for the 50-yard freestyle (28.20) and 100-freestyle (1.04.41) after she finished in the top 12 of the respective heats at the North State championships held two weeks ago in Flowood.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am for warm-ups and then 9:15 am for the events to start.
