Oak Hill Academy qualified for the MAIS AA State Tournament with a win over North Delta School last week in Madden on the campus of Leake Academy. The Raiders were unable to further their seeding though after two losses to Leake and Canton Academy in the following days of the tournament. The losses placed Oak Hill into the fourth seed and gave them a date with the AA South State Champions Central Private School of Central, Louisiana.
The Lady Raiders returned to action Wednesday in the first round of the MAIS AA State Tournament on the campus of Canton Academy. Placed as a second seed out of the north, Oak Hill took on the third seed from the south Columbia Academy in a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
Birthdays are supposed to be joyous occasions for most, marking another milestone in one’s life---a celebration with one’s family and friends for making it to see another year---and are often accompanied with good memories of the past----past birthday parties, past presents, past milestones and accomplishments, etc…. Not all have fond memories of their birthday, however, as they reflect on past failures or look at another year as just growing older with no hope it seems.
I read a great quote by Maya Angelou recently, “Because of our routines, we forget that life is an ongoing adventure”. This made me think of one of the most used complaints of all (in a whiny voice), “but I don’t have enough time.........”
The truth is that we control where our time goes. Time is a gift that we so often take for granted. We get caught up in the “busyness of our routines” that we rarely stop to take a look at where we are spending (wasting) this precious gift.
Earning a general education diploma is right around the corner for many Clay County residents, some of whom simply need to complete the math portion of the GED program before taking the examination.
Since so many residents of West Point only lack the math portion of the GED Program, East Mississippi Community College-West Point campus is holding a two-week accelerated math class just for these students.
When VJ Trolio first met Jonathan Randolph when the now professional golfer was 14 years old, he saw the natural talent Randolph possessed.
He also saw Randolph make common mistakes and face the same adversities all young people eventually face.
Like countless others who have been instructed by Trolio, the game taught Randolph about life and how to achieve the goals he set for himself.
What a busy semester it’s turning out to be for East Mississippi Community College’s West Point Center where more and more natives of Clay County are coming out to take advantage of the programs it offers.
One of those programs, Counseling 2 Career, caters solely to 18 to 21 year olds by instructing participants how to conduct themselves at a workplace, how to work well with others, how to write resumes and how to effectively interact with customers in a positive manner. Counseling 2 Career (C2C) also teaches participants organizational skills, computer skills and basic workplace skills.
A Mississippi Senate Bill requesting the consolidation of the West Point School District and the Clay County School District is now being considered by the Mississippi House of Representatives Education Committee.
The Bill, which passed the Senate last Friday, was sent to the House Education Committee this Thursday.
Google search “Dewayne Jefferson”, and click the first link that you see on the list of sources containing the name. It should lead you to a Wikipedia profile which shows a short, brief paragraph about an American professional basketball player.
A West Point, Mississippi native Jefferson is well traveled. And even though the Wikipedia page does not fill in the blanks, I want to make those blanks disappear and fill them in with his story.
So you may be asking, who is Dewayne Jefferson?
