Ruby Gibson "Dot" Beatty
Ruby Gibson "Dot" Beatty, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Facility in Gainesville, Ga.
Ruby Gibson "Dot" Beatty was born Feb. 5, 1933, in Columbus to the late Lida Bell Lollar and Linwood Gibson. She was a Case Worker with Clay County Welfare Department for 10 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in West Point. Mrs. Beatty has lived in Clay County and West Point since 1956. She married Lennis Beatty Dec. 29, 1951, in Columbus and he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2007 .
William Vernon Southern Jr.
William Vernon Southern Jr., age 90, passed away Tuesday May 1, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center of West Point.
William Vernon Southern Jr., was born June 27, 1921, in Clay County, to the late Valena Yeary and William Southern. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and served in WWII. In his working years he was employed at Babcock and Wilcox and later owned and operated Southernâ€™s grocery. In retirement he enjoyed working in his shop and garden. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Graveside services for George Hill were Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. from Rockhill Cemetery in Starkville.

Leomia Merritt Carr, age 86, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, La.
Funeral services are Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. from New Hebron M.B. Church in Egypt. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Friday, April 27, 2012, from 6 â€“ 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Okolona.

Nell Coleman Ropp, age 90, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, in West Point.
There are those instance when criminals pluck up the nerve to point their weapon at sworn officers of the law, who may find themselves in a situation where they're threatened by not one but maybe two or more firearms from offenders.
In situations such as these, shotguns play a critical role in the protection of a law enforcement officer's life, and Monday evening officers with the West Point Police Department trained for the first time with their new shotguns, issued to them through a grant, that all officers will possess while on duty.

Mr. and Mrs. Marty Holcolmbe of West Point, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Holcolmbe, to Kristopher Sykes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sykes of Aberdeen.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Holcolmbe of West Point and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Taylor of Steens.
She is a 2003 graduate of Oak Hill Academy, a 2005 graduate of East Mississippi Community College and a 2009 graduate of Mississippi State University.
She is currently employed with the Clay County Co-op, in West Point.
Bailey, Robison honored with shower
A couples shower/pre-reception will be held in honor of Clay Bailey and Jessica Robison, April 28th, at 2 p.m. at the Old Aberdeen Road Church of Christ. The couple are joining in marriage with a small ceremony at a later date and would like to include, and invite all friends and family to the pre-reception.
