Citizens warned to lock their doors, catalogue belongings

Not much is safe anymore from the hands of thieves.
While police are use to responding to burglaries involving guns, money and other valuables, it appears that a detachable car part was the target of at least one thief.
West Point Police Department Chief Investigator Albert Lee told the Daily Times Leader on Friday that on May 29, police were dispatched an East Street residence where a brake light had been stolen during the night from a 2003 Trailblazer.

Floyd fields questions at Luncheon With Books

John Floyd paid his fourth visit to the Bryan Public Library at noon Thursday. Most authors read a few pages from their newest novel or short story collection and continue with teasers about their next project. Floyd’s time during Luncheon With Books wasn’t spent talking about “Deception” or his other books, he connected with his audience in a different way. He opened up the floor for questions.

Waverly hosts women’s golf tournament

Kathleen Gallagher, 16, of Greenwood dethroned two-time defending Mississippi Women’s Golf Association State Champion Ally McDonald, a Mississippi State University golfer and Fulton native, by one hole in match play Thursday afternoon at Old Waverly Golf Course to take the 2013 Women’s Golf Amateur crown. Kathleen is the daughter of Cissye Gallagher and former-PGA player Jim Gallagher Jr. Gallagher is currently a player at Pillow Academy in Greenwood.

Robert Lee Rupert age 74 died June 3, 2013, at his home in Tupelo.
Funeral services are Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Green Street Church of Christ in Tupelo, with Bro. Daniel McCollum officiating. Burial will follow in the Porter’s Memorial Park.
Visitation is Friday, June 7, 2013, from 3 – 6\ p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel. Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Pickering recovers over $57,000 for Clay County

(Jackson,) – State Auditor Stacey Pickering recovered $69,220.76 and presented a check in the amount of $57,512.99, yesterday, June 5, to the Clay County Circuit Clerk’s Office following an investigation into former Circuit Clerk Bobbie Davis’ misappropriations of public funds.

County will save $18,000 by opting into new drug coverage

June 6, 2013

Some Clay County employees may soon see an increase the cost of their prescription drugs.
The increase would have been mandatory beginning July 1, 2014, but a vote by the Clay County Board of Supervisors on Thursday morning will bring the county under the new plan early, a move that will save the taxpayers nearly $18,000 this year.

Ella Mae Moore of West Point, 80, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at West Point Community Living Center.
She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Waverly M.B. Church. Services are Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 9 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Waverly M.B. Church in West Point. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery.
Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
