Crashes of thunder and lightening mixed with heavy rain and high winds left damage all across West Point and Clay County Wednesday night after one of this season's more severe thunderstorms made its way across the area.
More than 30 trees fell either across city and county roads, on top of homes or near homes, and Conley Cox Road and Decker Road received flash flooding. One home on Cedar Bluff Loop was damaged, an apartment complex on Travis Street suffered damage and two homes on Westbrook Street have damage from a huge tree that uprooted in one of the yards.

Carnell Green
Carnell Green, age 56, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.
Funeral services are Thursday, April 21, 2011, at 1 p.m. from Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel, with the Rev. Willie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Poole's Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is today, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.
James Clayton Pruett
James Clayton Pruett, age 89, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Regency Hospital in Meridian, Miss.
He was born July 24, 1941, in West Point, Miss., to the late Clovis M. Pruett, Sr. and Lola Rook.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Catherine Pope Farmer
Catherine Pope Farmer, age 89, passed away, Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Waverly Care Home in West Point.
Mrs. Farmer was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Pheba to the late Ethel Ellen Duke and Walter Brooks Pope. She was a switch board operator for Ivy Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1984 and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Catherine Pope Farmer married William Herbert Farmer February 2, 1942, in Biloxi and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2009.

A historic amount of rainfall caused flash flooding and led to the evacuation of some area buildings on Friday afternoon, as a passing cold front spawned thunderstorms that doused West Point for most of the day and left a trail of widespread damage throughout the state.
In Mississippi, five deaths were reported due to the weather and several tornadoes were spotted, including an EF-3 twister that caused two deaths in Clinton.
April 14th
The West Point Police Department now has more officers to assist the department with patrolling the streets, responding to incident calls and keeping crime in the city at a minimum.
On Tuesday, The West Point Board of Mayor and Selectmen approved a motion for the WPPD to hire five new auxiliary officers with adherence to the personnel policy the city currently has in place.
The felony case of 43-year-old Timothy Roberson, who is charged with being an assessor to murder, was continued Thursday in Clay County Circuit Court to the next court term.
Roberson is accused of hiding the firearm allegedly used by Robert Rupert to kill Roosevelt Pernell around Dec. 4, 2003. Roberson said he needed more time to prepare his defense, and the motion to continue the case was accepted.

The Clay County Board of Supervisors is taking a stance against litter and uncleanliness in the county and is pitching in to help with the Community-Wide Clean Up that is set for April 30.
Each of the five supervisors held meetings this week and last week in their districts where community residents who wanted to help came and discussed clean up plans that will be initiated that Saturday morning.
April 12th
The April term of Clay County Circuit Court entered week two Monday, and a grand jury was selected to make decisions on felony cases that are scheduled for trial this last week of court.
One case is that of 43-year-old Timothy Roberson, who is charged with being an accessory to the murder of Roosevelt Pernell that was allegedly committed by Robert Rupert, who is also scheduled for trial this week. Roberson allegedly hid the firearm on or about Dec. 4, 2003 that Rupert allegedly used to kill Pernell, trying to avoid arrest, trial and conviction.
