Virgie Dalyne Wilkinson, age 78, formerly of West Point, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo, Miss.
Graveside services were Monday, May 23, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.
Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Baskin, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Chicago, Ill.
Funeral services were Monday, May 23, 2011, at the J.F. Carter Chapel at Carter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Bowen officiating. Burial followed in the St. Robinson M.B. Church Cemetery.

Fred Douglas Ballard, age 88, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Rush Specialty Hospital in Meridian, Miss.
Funeral services are Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at noon from St. Paul M.B. Church, with the Rev. Pastor Joe Ballard of Chicago, Ill., officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Monday, May 23, 2011, from 3 – 6 p.m. from Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.

Willie Doff Echoles
Willie Doff Echoles, age 72, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston, Miss.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. from Popular Springs M.B. Church in Calhoun City, Miss., with the Rev. James Clark officiating.
Burial will follow in Popular Springs M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.

Clay County was included Wednesday evening with the 36 Mississippi counties that were given a federal declaration for public assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA.)
The declaration for public assistance comes just one week after the county was given a federal declaration for individual assistance to residents whose homes, businesses and other property were destroyed in last month's flooding and EF3 tornado.

President of the Mississippi Economic Council Blake Wilson visited West Point Wednesday and talked about the importance of keeping communities focused on the state’s economic development initiative and talked about the importance of education for community growth.

That smile is the first thing his mother brags about, and it's the first thing a visitor notices when he meets Harper Orman. That smile immediately takes hold of a room, makes Harper the center of attention, and brightens his mother's day.
“He smiles more than any child I've ever been around,” says Harper's mom, West Point native Brooke Bowen. “It doesn't matter what's going on in my life, when I see that little man's smile, it just melts my heart.”

Janice Ann Pittman, age 67, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at her home.
Funeral services are Friday, May 13, 2011, at noon from Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel, with Bro. Mike Mathena officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 2 – 5 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.

The West Point Board of Mayor and Selectmen adopted a mutual aid agreement Tuesday that would allow the city to offer assistance to residents affected by disasters, such as tornadoes or floods.
Since Clay County was given a federal disaster declaration Monday, residents affected by the recent tornado are eligible to receive individual assistance for housing, home repairs and other disaster-related expenses not paid for by the homeowner's insurance or another assistance programs.
