West Point runs out of gas, falls to Booneville 70-58

The Green Wave ended their two week hiatus Saturday December 29 in Booneville on the campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College. West Point took on the Blue Devils of Booneville High School. The Blue Devils are the current 3-A runner-up and one of the favorites to win the 3-A state championship.

Residents say stick to realistic resolutions

You know the routine. Come the last week in December, we grab a pen and a piece of paper, ink down our resolutions for the upcoming new year and walk away confidently with our shoulders thrown back and chins lifted, determined that we will meet those goals if it's the last thing we do.

Cox aims to cancel Secret Santa giveaway after eight years

West Point’s Secret Santa is calling it quits.
It is a most regretful decision for Darlene Cox, who has walked countless miles of West Point streets for the past eight years, collecting Christmas gifts for the needy children of this community.
Already documented is the fact that Cox’s December 21, 2012 Secret Santa giveaway at Marshall Park turned to chaos, as gifts designated for three specific needy families were grabbed up by the unruly crowd.

Broad Street residents under boil water advisory

The city of West Point issued a Boil-Water Alert Friday for customers who receive their drinking water from their water supply located in Clay County.

This affects approximately 40 customers on East Broad Street.

Water system officials notified the Mississippi State Department of Health of a pressure loss due to construction.

WPPD makes arrest in bomb threat cases

Hard work certainly does pay off as evidenced Thursday night by the Criminal Investigation Division of the West Point Police Department, which arrested one individual from Mississippi in connection to the recent bomb threats in the city.
After an intensive investigation by the WPPD, in cooperation with federal law enforcement agencies and several wireless service providers, police were able to nab a suspect, whose identity and place of incarceration is not being disclosed at this time.

West Clay hosts food drives

America Reads tutors at West Clay Elementary School decided to teach the students about the true meaning of Christmas. Beverly McKinney and Wyvonia Webb organized a Can Food Drive to help the student to realize the importance of giving back. The drive was held December 10 - 21. The students at West Clay Elementary did a fantastic job. They collected a total of 240 cans of food items to be given to the Clay County Food Pantry to assist those who are less fortunate. Unique Christmas present reflects a grateful heart

WEST POINT, -Justin Wofford got possibly the most unusual Christmas present ever from his new friend, Jimmy Gentry of Las Vegas. But it’s one that he nor Gentry will ever forget.
Gentry, 46, grew up in Los Angeles, moved to Tampa, Fla., and then settled in Las Vegas about eight years ago. His parents, Bill and Sandy, retired to West Point several years ago.

The Lady Raiders have been absolutely dominant this season and it is only the end of December. Once again Oak Hill put on commanding performances at the Immanuel Christmas Tournament as the Lady Raiders defeated both of their opponents and very easily to say the least.

The Raiders, over the holiday break, participated in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament. Oak Hill split their two games at the tournament with one loss to Columbus High School on Thursday and a tight victory over single-A Winona Christian 64-60 on Friday.
