Kim O’Brian Pettit

June 18, 2013

Kim O’Brian Pettit, 72, passed away June 15, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
She was a retired hairdresser and owner of the Hair Pen Salon in Maben. She was preceded in death by her parents, Seisen Kinjo and Uta Watanabe; and first husband, Bud O’Brian.

Florida J. Donald age 75, died Sunday, June 15, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Funeral services are Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Third Mt. Olive M.B. Church with Dr. Charles Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is today, Wednesday, June 19, 2013, from 3-6 p.m. at the Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Bulldogs win Game 1 in Omaha - Take down No.3 Beavers 5-4

June 17, 2013

The Diamond Dawgs made the most out of their first trip to Omaha since 2007, defeating #3 national seed Oregon State by a score of 5-4 in Game 1 of the College World Series. The game saw the Bulldogs (49-18) come from behind twice to pull the victory out over the Beavers (50-12), including a two out RBI double by 1B Wes Rea in the eighth to put the Dawgs ahead for good.

Farmers’ Market continues to bear fruit

The West Point Farmers’ Market is building momentum. Featuring the best in fresh produce, tea, jams and other items, the Thursday event is getting more popular with Clay County citizens by the week. Caller threatens to “blow up” Popeyes

Dozens of terrified employees and patrons of Popeyes of West Point were evacuated from the restaurant late Sunday night shortly after an employee picked up the phone only to receive an eery message that the restaurant would soon be bombed.

Herbert Friesen passed away on Friday June 14, 2013 at North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo at the age of 84.

Franks surrenders to police

A West Point man, who was wanted in connection to a June 7 burglary, turned himself in to West Point police Friday after the Daily Times Leader ran a report about the incident.

Mattie Sue Moore age 88, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at her home in Aberdeen.
Funeral services are Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Baptist Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Joseph L. Lampkin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is today, Friday, June 14, 2013 from 3-6 p.m. at the Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.
