5th St. student invited to leadership conference

Fifth Street Junior High seventh-grader Maney Darby,13, has been invited to participate in the Foundations of Leadership conference July 22-27 in Washington, D.C.
The conference is hosted by Envision Career and Leadership Programs, and is for middle school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and academic achievement, according to Envision's website.

EMCC breaks ground on union

East Mississippi Community College hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for new Golden Triangle campus student union Friday in Mayhew.
Construction for the nearly $15 million two-story, 76,000 square-foot building is expected to take two years. The union will be located next to the humanities and fine arts building on campus and will consist of 12 multi-purpose classrooms, a lecture hall, computer lab, small and large conference rooms, a bookstore, a cafeteria with an open dining area, private dining rooms and a small fitness center.
