Inky the Clown to open Summer Reading Program

Entertainer Inky the Clown will be the opening act at 2 p.m. today for the Summer Reading Program at the Bryan Public Library in West Point. The theme is: Fizz, Boom, Read.
For more than 10 years, Inky the Clown has brought his unique brand of humor to delight young and old during the SRP.

Supervisors discuss hauling ordinance

The Clay County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. June 12 to open sealed bids.
The county owns 17.14 acres of land on Highway 45 South that the board intends to lease for the collection of hay, and advertised for bids to lease the land beginning Monday.

Blissard named Emergency Manager of the Year

West Point-Clay County Emergency Management Interim Director Kerrie Gentry-Blissard received the 2014 Emergency Manager of the Year award last week at the Mississippi Partners in Preparedness summit in Biloxi.
Nomination committee members of the Mississippi Civil Defense Emergency Management Association (MCDEMA) accepted qualified candidate applications on behalf of the MCDEMA Board of Directors for the award. Nominees were presented at the summit, and attendees at the conference chose the winner from the top two nominees.
