Peggy Louise Hamm Guest of West Point passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at NMMC-West Point at the age of 75.
She was born May 14, 1938, to the late Leron Gladys Moore and Loy Joseph Hamm. She was retired log clerk for Royal Trucking and she was of the Freewill Baptist Faith.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 4, 2014. at Robinson Chapel with Bro. George Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Don Rainwater, Ed Rainwater, Terry Hamm, Marc Hamm Night, Butch Bean, Jody Guest.

Evangeline L. Cox, age 49, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2014, at Starkville Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Bryan Union Hall with Rev. Michael Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in Poole’s Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is 3 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

MS Support Group open at NMMC-West Point; preparations begin for annual Walk MS rally

The Multiple Sclerosis Support Group of the Golden Triangle, meet at noon the first Tuesday of each month in the Education Room of North Mississippi Medical Center of West Point at noon. The group is open to anyone living with MS or the friend or loved one of an MS patient who would like to be better informed about the disease.

Local student keeps head up high after bee

Although West Point Fifth Street School Student Synethia Mathews said she was disappointed in her third-round loss at the Mid-South Spelling Bee in Memphis, Tenn., she was not disappointed that her state would be represented at the upcoming National Scripps Spelling Bee.
Mathews brought home first place at the West Point School District Spelling Bee Feb. 4, which marked her spot at the Mid-South Spelling Bee in Memphis where she would compete against 48 students for a chance at first place.

Old Waverly Golf Course Handa Legends Tour Tournament Chairman Rick Milburn met with the Clay County Board of Supervisors Monday to brief the board on the expected player roster, as well as other details encompassing the upcoming International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS) Handa Legends Tour scheduled for Sept. 26 - 28 in hopes of garnering Clay County’s support for the event.
