County combats illegal dumping

Like most counties in rural America, Clay County deals with its share of illegal dumping. However, in recent years, the practice has been declining locally thanks to steady efforts from state and county officials to combat the problem; most notably through a Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) yearly solid waste assistance grant.

Local woman arrested on meth charge

A local woman was arrested and charged Wednesday for possession of approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.
According to a press release provided by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Jamie Finch, 23, of 715 Cromwell St. in West Point, was arrested and charged Wednesday after a traffic stop conducted by a CCSD officer on North Division Street.
