COMMUNITY ALERT: West Point schools to release early

Just when bad weather appears to be at an end, it seems another wave rolls through. West Point School District announced that threat of incoming ice and snow in the early afternoon have prompted officials to send students home early.

All West Point public schools will release at 1:30 p.m. today.

MBN makes $1 million cocaine bust

Officials announced five arrests Tuesday, including two individuals from Starkville and West Point, respectively, in connection with an alleged Oktibbeha County-based cocaine smuggling ring.
Interim Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Samuel Owens saidn in a MBN release that more arrests are expected in the ongoing investigation, which is code-named "Operation Queen Bee."
Law enforcement officers simultaneously served nine search warrants Feb. 1, leading to the arrests.

Friends of BPL host annual bake sale

Friends of the Bryan Public Library are once again pulling out their bowls, blenders and whisks for the Valentine Bake Sale, from 10 a.m - 6 p.m. Thursday in the Esther Pippen Meeting room.

The West Point/Clay County Cub Scout program is gaining momentum, and on Monday about 20 of the group’s young cubs moved up through the ranks at the organization’s annual Blue and Gold Banquet, held at the American Legion.

Wrecks scarce in Clay County

Although an icy front made its way through West Point Monday night into Tuesday morning, West Point and Clay County law enforcement officials said they were surprised by how smooth the 24-hour gap went for motorists. However, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop G reported widespread — albeit mostly minor — weather-related traffic incidents, one of which resulted in a fatality.
West Point Police Department Chief Tim Brinkley said Monday evening as well as Tuesday morning was reflective of a normal day for patrol units.
