OAK HILL SPLITS WITH CANTON IN DISTRICT 2-AA

The Oak Hill Lady Raiders (16-11; 5-4 District 2-AA) pieced together a team-effort win over the Canton Lady Panthers, 46-36, in the second leg of a MAIS District 2-AA on the campus of Oak Hill Academy in West Point.
Maegan Ellis led the Lady Raiders for a redeeming win over the Lady Panthers. Canton defeated Oak Hill on Jan. 10 in Canton, 35-34.

Elsie Mae Lenoir-Parker

Elsie Mae Lenoir-Parker age 82, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Clinton Health Care in Clinton.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Town Creek M.B. Church with Rev. Joseph Parker Sr., officiating.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Investigators keep ears to ground for new leads on 2011 shooting

West Point Police Department investigators are on the lookout for new evidence to make an arrest on a 2011 armed robbery gone awry, along with several burglaries from the same year.
At about 4 p.m. March 40, 2011, West Point Police Department officers were dispatched to Morgan Street in response to a possible armed robbery.
The victim, according to an incident report, reported to responding officers an individual had allegedly approached him with a firearm zeroed in on him.

Training, attention affects Pit Bull demeanor

Stories of violent Pit Bull attacks are a mainstay on popular mainstream media outlets. And although the cluster of breeds that make up the Pit Bull classification does have a grain of violence embedded in their essence, they are not always the vicious animals some might be quick to deem them.
"They're just like every other dog," said West Point-Clay County Animal Shelter (WPCCAS) Director Lisa Henley. "A lot of it depends on what kind of owners gets a hole of them. You're going to get any dog that you put into it."
