Charles Hamilton, 67, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 in West Point.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at Northside Christian Church, with Rev. Orlando Richmond, officiating. Burial will follow in Plair Cemetery, Starkville.
Visitation is today, Thursday, April 24, 2014 from noon - 6 p.m. at West Memorial Chapel, Starkville.

James M. Fields

April 24, 2014

James M. Fields, 76, passed away April 18, 2014, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian.
Mr. James was born May 27, 1937, in Maben, the son of the late O.D. and Cora Mae Langford Fields. He worked in maintenance at General Tire in Columbus for 32 years. He was a Baptist. He married Margret Schmidt Fields in Sept. 1984 in Columbus.
Graveside services are Friday, April 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. from Greenwood Cemetery in West Point with Pastor Bobby Richardson officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

M. Dean Andrews, Age 59, of West Point, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Visitation is Saturday, April 26, 2014, from noon - 2 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point.

‘Stuffed With Love’ campaign aiming to bring in 500 toys for first responders

Brownies from Troop No. 23169 are hosting a stuffed animal drive from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Kroger parking lot in West Point as part of its Stuffed With Love campaign.
Troop Leader Jennifer Harper said the troop, which consists of second-and third-grade girls, has a goal to collect 500 stuffed animals. The troop will then donate these toys to the West Point Police Department and West Point Fire Department.

CCS to host community yard sale

May is Mental Health Awareness month, and Community Counseling Services (CCS) in West Point is working to spread the word and end the stigma associated with mental health issues.
CCS will host its third annual community yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 2 in the Pass It On parking lot at 407 W. Main St. in West Point. The sale is open to resident participation, and CCS department directors will be on hand to join in the fun as well as answer any questions about CCS services.

OHA staff search winding down

Oak Hill Academy is nearing the final stages of its search for a new elementary school principal and new girls’ basketball coach.
The new hires are to replace Oak Hill elementary principal Jane Rives and basketball coach Stan Hughey. Rives’ contract was not renewed for the next school year and Hughey resigned.
Oak Hill Headmaster Yandell Harris said he couldn’t discuss the specifics as of Wednesday but that the school hopes to announce its new elementary principal by May 2.

Lady Wave golfers look for state title

The West Point Green Wave girls golf team will travel to Holly Springs Monday and Tuesday to compete for a 5A state championship in golf. The Green Wave are coached by Brad Cox and Rachel Pate.
“Rachel Pate is our volunteer golf coach,” Cox said. “She knows a lot about the game and spends a lot of time with our girls. She really helps them with scholarship opportunities and is just an awesome coach.”
The three girls competing in state are Synethia Matthews, Ashley Johnson and Angelica Colbert.
Cox said Matthews is a great athlete who hits the ball well and enjoys the game.

Harrison Lee Mosley

Harrison Lee Mosley, age 71, passed away Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, after a nearly four year battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Bay County, Florida to Arvie Lee and Rosa Lee Mosley, both deceased of DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Mr. Mosley had lived most of his life in Escambia and Walton County, Fla., but also lived in Baldwin County, Ala., and Clay County. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a very compassionate and giving person and servant of God.

James Jolly, age 41, of West Point, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at his home in West Point.
