Nathaniel Neely age 94, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Community Hospice, Inc. of Verona.
Funeral services are Saturday, March 16, 2013. at noon from Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Van Vleet. Burial will follow in Ross Hill Cemetery.
The body will lie at the church from 11 a.m. until service time for viewing.
Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Local students are donating their time at the West Point/Clay County Animal Shelter. Taking care of puppies is a big job and Ramsey Claire Robinson, Nadia Flowers, Brittany Thomas and Abigail Turner are helping socialize and cleaning up after the five remaining puppies from a litter of nine. Robert E. (Bob Valentine, 73, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center - West Point. Funeral services are Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Calvert Funeral Home with visitation being from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Cemetery in Una.

It took a while and some debating between the West Point Board of Selectman, but the body eventually reappointed Art Shirley to the West Point School Board on Tuesday night.

The date for the District 36 runoff election was incorrectly printed as March 26 in the Wednesday edition of the Daily Times Leader. The mistake was caught after the paper had printed.

March 12th
City Hall representative Justin Estes presents the Girl Scouts Heart of the South of Clay County with a proclamation announcing this week as National Girl Scouts Week. The Girl Scouts had their 101 birthday, March 12. The scouts cleaned the hut behind Central School, which was generously made available to the girl scouts for their meetings by the West Point School District. After cleaning, the girls made crafts and had cupcakes to celebrate 101 years of Girl Scouting. If you missed out last month, Girl Scout cookies are still available.
Hebron Christian took on French Camp Academy in the afternoon game of their double-header at the East Webster Tournament.
