The alarm clock jars you awake and verifies that another day has begun. You stumble into the bathroom, brush your teeth, and make one of two decisions. You either look forward to the day ahead or you are filled with inexplicable dread.

Joe Caldiero

July 3, 2013

Joe Caldiero, 65, passed away, Monday, July 1, 2013, at his home, in West Point.
He was born October 29, 1947, in Jeffersonville, New York, to the late Vita Millici and Fortunato Caldiero. Joe was a retired Senior Master Sgt. U.S. Air Force after 25 years. He loved traveling and playing golf. Mr. Caldiero was a member of the Catholic Faith.
Funeral services are Friday, July 5, 2013, noon at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Air Force Chaplain James E. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery West Point, with full military honors.

Lem Young

July 3, 2013

Lem Young age 86, died July 1, 2013, 2013, at G.V. Sonny V.A. Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services are Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Third Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Al Lathan, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Friday, July 5, 2013 from 3-6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel. Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Calvin Samuel

July 3, 2013

Calvin Samuel age 52, died July 2, 2013 at his home in West Point.
Funeral services are Friday, July 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Trio Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Barry Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow in the Gibbs cemetery in West, Point. Visitation is Friday, July 5, 2013. one hour prior to services.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Clarice Crawford - Cox

July 3, 2013

Clarice Crawford - Cox age 56, died Saturday, June 29, 2013. at the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Funeral services are Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Fountain Head Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, July 5, 2013, from 3-6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Charlie D. Hill

July 3, 2013

Charlie D. Hill, 85, of Summit, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at his residence.
Visitation is Sunday evening at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb from 4 - 7 p.m. and will continue Monday morning from 9 a.m. until funeral services begin at 10 a.m.. Rev. Vann Windom and Dr. David Millican will officiate. Burial will follow in Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery in Houston, with full Military Honors.
Local pallbearers will be his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at graveside in Houston, will be the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

Jake Melvin Garrett

July 3, 2013

Jacob Melvin Garrett passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at NMMC-West Point at the age of 92.
He was born June 23, 1921, in Texas to the late Hattie McCleskey and Leslie Garrett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in WWII. He moved to Arizona in 1938, and worked for Phelps Dodge Copper Co. for 35 years. He moved to Mississippi in 1981, and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

Pet of the week

Jim Beam is an approximately one year old, red doberman mix. He has been neutered and is current on all his shots. Jim gets along well with people and other dogs. The West Point/Clay County Animal Shelter has ten new puppies of all varieties and nine cute kittens. If you would like to adopt Jim Beam or any of the dogs, puppies or kittens at the animal shelter, their hours are Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - noon, or call 524-4430.
