Oktibbeha murder case heard in Clay: Jackson’s new mayor allowed to withdraw as attorney

Chokwe Lumumba, newly-elected mayor of Jackson, was granted a motion Friday in Clay County Circuit Court to withdraw from his post as attorney for Archie Quinn, an Oktibbeha County man accused of capital murder.
For a little over four years Lumumba has represented Quinn, who was scheduled to stand trial Monday in Oktibbeha County for killing one person, shooting another, burglarizing the shooting victim’s home and shooting into a dwelling. Lumumba said because of his mayoral status he would not have been able to represent Quinn during the trial, which has been postponed.

Man tied up, robbed at gunpoint

West Point police are currently in search of two men accused of barging into a Calhoun Street residence, tying a man up and robbing his home at gunpoint.

Imagine being a young person away from home with only the clothes on your back.
This is often the case at the Sally Kate Winter Family Services facility. Many children and teens come to them with nothing. These kids are runaways, homeless or taken from unsafe situations in their homes.

Center, West Point.
Funeral Services are Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point.
Visitation is Friday, July 19, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Tierra Shardae Cooperwood

Tierra Shardae Cooperwood, an infant age two months, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at her home in West Point.
Graveside services are Friday, July 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Al Lathan, Sr., officiating. Visitation is today, Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel from 2 – 4 p.m.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

McClure sentenced for manslaughter
