When the schoolhouse is just two or three blocks down from an adolescent’s house, it sort of makes sense for a parent to allow that child to walk or bike to school. However, parents want nothing more than for their child, who commutes independently, to make it to school safely as possible.

An investigation of stolen scrap metal began two weeks ago through the West Point Police Department, and thanks to a helpful lead in the case at least one arrest has been made.

The Ozark Region Collegiate Rodeo competition is coming tomorrow. The three-day event will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at Eagle Ranch in Clay County. Kramer Sowell is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Or to get his students in the Agricultural Science class dirty. That’s just one of the things that made the West Point School District chose him for Teacher of the Year. He is also Teacher of the Year for the Career and Technology Center. His student look forward to his classes where they learn about livestock, goats, quail and chickens have been raised by the students. They learn about growing food plants and decorative plants at the green house at the back of the CTC building.
Tracy Ridings has the unenviable job of teaching English I and Honors English to ninth grade students. This is why she was named WPHS North Campus Teacher of the Year. She introduces them to the plays of William Shakespeare with “Romeo and Juliet” and will be taking them back in time to the Holocaust by reading “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” by John Boyne. Milton Sundbeck, owner of Southern Ionics is honored with his second Patriot Award at the corporation’s main office on Tuesday. The Mississippi Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense operational committee bestowed the award in recognition of Sundbeck’s “extraordinary support” of Ron Howell, who has been deployed twice as an employee of Southern Ionics.
