It was a great week to be an MSU Bulldog sports fan. After a midweek come from behind victory over arch-rival and #18 Ole Miss in the annual Governor’s Cup baseball game at Trustmark Park in Jackson, in front of a record crowd (8,240) by a score of 5-1, the Bulldogs continued their outstanding play over the weekend by sweeping SEC newcomer Texas A&M at College Station.

In Oak Hill’s final game of the season, the Raiders needed a win to at least close out the year on a high note.

It was almost as if the skies over north Mississippi parted this past weekend, allowing West Point’s first-ever Art Walk Festival to flourish on Commerce Street.

Donna Bruce had crossed the finish line at the Boston Marathon four minutes before an initial explosion went off at Monday’s 26.2 mile run, which draws some of the world’s best and most avid runners.

It was a proud and humbling moment Saturday for the Daily Times Leader, which took home eight awards in this year’s Associated Press Managing Editors Louisiana/Mississippi Newspaper Contest.

Chris Gibson has proven the theory that hard work pays off in the long run. Yet it has not taken too long for Gibson to catch the eye of West Point head coach Buddy Wyers this 2013 season. Chris, a freshman, has come through the ranks from junior high to junior varsity and now varsity where he has found a role at second base.

Fifty-four wins, no losses.

That is the current record and two-year long winning streak that the Oak Hill Junior Raiders are holding which spans over three seasons. The streak began in 2010. Along the way, Oak Hill Junior High claimed four back-to-back district championships, and to celebrate the success, head coach Brian Middleton and his Oak Hill Junior Raiders are releasing commemorative t-shirts for their excellent achievements on the basketball court.
