2 arrested in scrap metal thefts

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has arrested 2 individuals in connection with an alleged scrap metal theft that occurred on Sept. 9 in western Clay County.

Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested Jonathan N. Clerk, 33, of Cedar Bluff and Terrance D. Collins, 30, of Maben following a report that scrap metal was missing from a Clay County residence. The suspects were apprehended at Jefferson Iron and Metal.

SKW Offers leadership program

September 13, 2013

The Sally Kate Winters Home is continuing to offer programs to help the community with its after school leadership program. The program is offered 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday during the school year at the Home on North Division Street.

Counseling Coordinator Georgia Sasso said the program offers youth 12-17 a place to go once the school day is over. The purpose of the program is to teach leadership skills and help keep the community youth “out of trouble.”

Local church reaches out to community

The Northside Christian Church will be hosting an event titled “Exalting the Savior: An Evening of Praise” at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14. at the Mary Holmes Auditorium

Rev. Orlando Richmond Sr. said that the evening will be a “mass gospel fellowship,” which can bring the community together.

Brothers bring family atmosphere to Raider football

The Oak Hill football team knows that all too well as it boasts two sets of brothers: the Rileys and the Dragoos.

Twins, junior Drake Riley and sophomore Drew Riley, along with senior Steve Dragoo and his younger brother, freshman, Taylor Dragoo, bring together a strong bond that only a pair of brothers can bring to the table.

West Point looks to ground Columbus

Expect some hard hits and spetacular plays on Friday night as the West Point Green Wave (1-1) hosts the Columbus Falcons (1-1) in a MHSAA non-district bout at Hamblin Stadium in West Point.

The week-four game has senior linebacker Eddious Webb more than ready for the Friday night lights to turn on again.
