Pestilence, filth and misery was the sight that met Linda Koch of the Clay County Horse Rescue when responding to several complaints about horses that were not being treated humanely. The property in question is owned by David and Roxie Lofton. It is out in the county near Montpelier,.

Willie J. Manning

June 27, 2013

Willie J. Manning age 71, died June 23, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Funeral services are Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church with Rev. Homer Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Home Mission Society Cemetery #1 in West Point. Visitation is today, Friday, June 28, 2013, from 3-6 p.m. at the Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Conerly Ballard

Ruby Conerly Ballard, 77, passed away, on June 26, 2013, at her home, in Pickensville, Alabama.
Mrs. Ruby Conerly Ballard was born February 24, 1936, in Monroe County, the daughter of the late
Preston Johnston and Ethel Adelaide Bush Conerly.  She was the Bookkeeper for Ballard and Hudspeth Construction Company.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pickensville, AL, and a member of the West Point Red Hat Society.  She married Edward Stinson Ballard, Sr. on January 10, 1953, and he passed away January 20, 2007. 

Mooney to lead West Point Rotary Club over next year

Eldora Hamilton Odneal

June 27, 2013

Eldora Hamilton Odneal age 97, died June 24, 2013, at Dugan Memorial Home. Funeral services are Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Wesley officiating. Burial will follow in the Tibbee Community Cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 1-5 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Dusty road source of concerns

The dust is so bad you can barely breathe, says several residents living on Deanes Road in Clay County. And aside from trying to keep the dust from settling into their lungs, residents say the dust on Deanes Road clouds up so thickly, motorists can barely see the road in front of them when vehicles pass by, which some say is a serious concern.

Culin-Arts to distribute Wolf t-shirts, posters and tickets

The 2013 Howlin’ Wolf Memorial Blues Festival t-shirts, tickets and posters are on sale. Culin-Arts on Commerce Street is the source for this year’s Wolf memorabilia promoting the 18th annual festival that takes place on August 30. Medium to large shirts are $15 with 2X and 3X going for $20. Posters are $10, and tickets to the festival are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. School Board hears proposed '13-'14 budget
