Anne Franklin Washington, 77, passed away, on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical
Center, in Starkville, Miss.
Anne Franklin Washington was born August 12, 1935 in Cedar Bluff, Mississippi to the late Sarah Louise Anthony and John Luther Franklin. Mrs. Washington was a retired educator teaching 2nd grade at West Side School and South Side School for 32 years.
Anne Franklin Washington was a member of Pheba Baptist Church. Anne Franklin Washington married Robert Patrick Washington March 19, 1955, who preceded her in death on November 4, 2002.
A few weeks back, we discussed how thousands of jobs, mostly those in the areas of defense and military, would be cut as of March 1 if no deal was reached to avoid the cuts.
Last Friday, these cuts went into effect and were signed into law by our President. Nearly $1.2 trillion dollars of cuts----over 750,000 jobs----all cut over night. The Green Wave are coming off of a 7-6 win over rival Starkville Tuesday night. Senior Freddie Reed hit a RBI single giving West Point the lead in the bottom of the sixth, and Tony Reese finished off the game on the mound to secure the victory. The Wave currently hold a 3-1 record on the season and hope to better their record against Columbus this evening.

Clay County Property Appraiser Mike Sanders now has the authority by the Clay County Board of Supervisors to inspect mobile homes in the county to ensure the homes are on the county's mobile home roll.
This is also an effort by the board to collect mobile home taxes and garbage fees from mobile homes, which are not on the rolls.

Highway 47 in Clay County may very soon be named after one of West Point's legendary football stars, All-State, All- American former NFL player Tom Goode.
This Tuesday a Senate Bill, which would designate Highway 47 as the Tom Goode Highway, passed the Mississippi House of Representatives and will soon be sent to Governor Phil Bryan for his signature.
