Myatt no-no elevates Hebron over Central

Sometimes you just don’t realize what you have until all the dust has cleared. 
For Hebron Christian sophomore Drew Myatt, he was completely unaware of how strong his outing on the mound was Thursday afternoon. Five shutout innings and no hits gave Myatt a no-no and helped elevate the Hebron Eagles over Central Academy 10-0 in Pheba.

West Point falls to New Hope 5-1

March 30, 2013

Friday night, the West Point Green Wave played host to the New Hope Trojans at Taylor Park. In game two of the three game series, New Hope used 5 runs on 8 hits and 4 errors to defeat West Point 5-1. The Wave only had two hits against the Trojans with seniors Freddie Reed and Bradley Ewings collecting the hits. Taking the loss for West Point on the mound was senior right-hander Tez Lane going six and one-third innings with 11 strikeouts while allowing five runs, only one was earned. West Point will return to the diamond Tuesday in Oxford against district 2-5A foe, the Oxford Chargers.

Summerall: Proud to be from Mississippi

We as Mississippians are often looked down on by those from other parts of the country who consider themselves more “enlightened or progressive” than us. I saw an example of this on Facebook. A friend had posted a story about a homeless woman being fired from her job at KFC in Tupelo, because she had no physical address. The first person to jump on the bashing bandwagon was a professor from Penn State who promptly said,

Two arrested following drug investigation

March 30, 2013

In the early morning hours of March 28, 2013, the Clay County Sheriff Department, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Chickasaw County Sheriff Department executed a search warrant at 10241 Colony Road in western Clay County that resulted in the arrests of John Henry Moye, age 41, of 10241 Colony Road and Meldon Evans, age 54, of 263 County Road 55, Houston, MS.

Port could receive improvement grant

Tom Soya Grain Company of West Point is working diligently to protect the dock at the Port of Clay from damage and is hoping a Mississippi Department of Transportation improvement grant will allow them to do so.

Mary Gray Gieger Stubbs

March 30, 2013

Mary Gray Gieger Stubbs, 97 years of age, passed away on March 29, 2013, at Gilda’s Place in Ridgeland, MS.
She was a homemaker, teacher and business book keeper. Mary Gray was a member of First Methodist Church of Starkville, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Gieger and Lida Critz Gieger, husband Archie Stubbs, son Richard Stubbs and sisters Martha Reynolds and Ann Daigle.

Earl E. “Bub” Thompson

Mr. Earl E. “Bub” Thompson, Age 83, of Pheba, Mississippi died at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo March 30, 2013 services are incomplete and will be announced later by Calvert Funeral Home of West Point, Mississippi.
