February 20th
It was last April when 26-year-old Amonty Young of West Point was sentenced as a habitual offender to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to the charge of uttering forgery. Now Young is petitioning Clay County Circuit Court to toss out the judgement on several bases, including an alleged violation by the grand jury of Clay County.
The Clay County Sheriff Department needs your help in locating a 2007 Polaris 700 4-wheeler stolen from a barn located on Highway 45 North Alt., West Point, MS.
The theft occurred on February 16, 2013 or the early morning hours of February 17, 2013. The 4-wheeler is black and gray in color with a winch on front with the serial number 4XAMH68A17A967061.

February 19th
Doris T. Bandy, 91, passed away this week. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by Calvert Funeral Home of West Point.
One student at West Point High School, Oak Hill Academy and Hebron Christian School is going to get a little help with college next fall, providing they are planning to attend Mississippi State University.
The MSU Alumni Chapter in West Point will be hosting its fourth-annual golf tournament to raise money for scholarships that will go to one Bulldog-bound student from each area high school.
The golf tournament, which will be played on May 6, 2013 is the primary way the chapter raises money for these scholarships.

Earlie Mae Townsend age 64, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center of West Point.
Funeral services are today, Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Progress St. Church of God with Bishop William Golden officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Recently, I ran across a quote from the current Biggersville basketball coach Cliff Little in a tweet from Southern Sentinel’s Kedrick Storey. Coach Little in reference to his upcoming opponent, Blue Mountain, said that they were “hungry…They’re like a man by a dumpster looking for a crumb.” Though some may see that as a slight at Blue Mountain or maybe even a negative remark about homelessness, Coach Little’s remark about Blue Mountain was the biggest compliment. Never would I want to be in an all-out brawl with someone who was that hungry.
