Dorecellius Murray Jr. age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services are Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Progress St. Church of God with the Rev. A. Stockton officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Monday, February 4, 2013, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mark your calendars for Friday, May 10, 2013, at 6 p.m. This is the night for Clay County’s Relay for Life. Teams are needed for the yearly fundraiser to help battle cancer. Your team can raise funds any way they like, there are salad lunches, bake sales, hamburger cookouts, jails with the “bond” going to Relay for Life or any fun idea that raises money and awareness.

Judy Tyler Trenary recently graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. She is a 1988 graduate of West Point High School, and earned a diploma from the nursing program at EMCC. She obtained her Associate and Bachelor degrees from Mississippi University for Women, and a Master of Science in Nursing degree from UAB. Dr. Trenary is the daughter of Robert and Nina Tyler of West Point, and is married to Chuck Trenary of Columbus.
Hebron Christian’s Junior HIgh Lady Eagles were victorious on Friday night in the MAIS district 3-A tournament at Woods Junior College in Mathiston.
Thursday, Hebron had to make it through the first round of play against Central Academy of Macon. The Lady Eagles were successful in their attempt to take down the Lady Vikings and punched their ticket to the district title game.
The Oak Hill Junior High Raiders picked up their fourth consecutive district and kept the fifty plus winning streak alive. The Raiders defeated Immanual Christian Schools Junior High team on Saturday night to pick up their fourth straight title.
The Clay County Board of Supervisors is taking the next step in the county’s goal of economic development growth by beginning the process of bond issuances in preparation for new industry to locate in Clay County.
Before unanimously approving the first phases of the process, the board heard Monday from Chairman of the Golden Triangle Development LINK Gordon Flowers, who advised the board that getting ready to issue bonds is the thing to do now so it won’t take long to receive funds that are needed for an industry project.
After a three-two vote Monday morning, the Clay County Board of Supervisors selected local attorney Michelle Easterling to serve temporarily as Clay County’s prosecuting attorney.
The selection comes just days after former County Prosecuting Attorney Angela Turner-Lairy submitted her letter of resignation stepping down from the post after serving as prosecutor for five years.
District 37 Representative Tyrone Ellis wants Clay County residents to know they are not without representation at the state capitol.
The death of David Gibbs in early January still leaves a seat vacant during the midst of a 90-day legislative session. This leaves only Ellis and District 39 Representative Republican Gary Chism as representatives for Clay County.
Ellis spoke to Clay County citizens on Monday morning at the Legislative Breakfast, sponsored by the Growth Alliance.
