Hebron trounces Grace

PHEBA — Hebron Christian entered its Thanksgiving break after winning two games against District 3-A opponent Calhoun Academy and non-district opponent Winona Christian.
The Eagles did not lose their winning ways over the week long break as Landon Hill scored a game-high 20 points, Channing Tapley collected a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Hebron (3-1; 1-0 District 3-A) outpaced Grace Christian, 76-23, in a MAIS non-district contest Tuesday.

West Point sweeps Okolona

OKOLONA — Tre Williams was in a shooting slump and hoped to get out of it in the near future.
Against Okolona, the senior shooting guard came out firing on all cylinders, knocking down eight points in the first quarter and helping West Point jump out to a 23-8 advantage.
“I have been in a slump for a minute, so I had to come in thinking ‘shoot,’” Williams said. “My teammates got me the ball and I got some wide open looks.”

Percy Brown Jr., age 59, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013.
Funeral services are noon, Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at The Church House of Refuge with Pastor Thomas Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation is 3 – 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Keith Myrick

December 5, 2013

Keith Myrick, 65, passed away Wednesday, Dec.4, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus. Keith was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Laurel, to the late Clara Matthews and Raymond Dennis Myrick. He had worked for the City of West Point as Land Fill Security for 11 years and was a member of West End Baptist. He had a love for deer hunting and his dog Dolly. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Vietnam and was the reciepient of the Bronze Star medal. Dennis Keith Myrick married Deborah Craven Myrick, August 21, 1976, in Vernon, Ala.

Stamps talks education, training

Civitan president Margaret Shelton presided over Wednesday’s meeting of the West Point Civitan Luncheon Club and reminded the members that the club’s Christmas party is noon, Dec. 18, at the Bryan Public Library. She said the raffle tickets for the Nook e – tablet would continue to be sold through Dec. 18, when the winner will be drawn during the Christmas party.
Shelton introduced the meeting’s speaker, Warren Stamps.

FUMC to host Good News Everywhere choir concert

West Point’s First United Methodist Church is set to ring in the jubilation and Christmas spirit with its Good News Everywhere choir concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in the FUMC sanctuary.
Rachel Delk, FUMC choir director, said the event will be filled to the brim with Christmas carols and exerts from scripture throughout the evening.
“We’re singing a lot of Christmas carols,” said Delk. “We want people to feel familiar with the music. They tend to enjoy traditional Christmas music.”
