Ellis competes at MAIS all-star softball game

It is shaping up to be a busy week for Oak Hill senior Maegan Ellis.
Like any high school Homecoming maid, Ellis is having to decide on a dress to wear during the festivities on Friday – though her mother, Gigi, said one dress was already selected. The dress right now though is paired with a pair of cleats, an aluminum bat and a leather glove, as Ellis was selected to represent Oak Hill in the MAIS annual All-Star Softball event today at Jackson Prep in Flowood.
“We do have a dress picked out,” Gigi said. “The only thing is can we find some time for school this week.”

Gifted program crucial tool in identifying students

Teachers and principals of West Point School District elementary schools met after school Monday to hear Carol W. Paola, Mississippi Association for Gifted Children executive director, talk about how important the gifted program is to elementary students who qualify.

WPPD receives grant to hire extra officer

The West Point Police Department is expecting to welcome a new member to the family in the not-so-distant future.
Many thanks to a grant awarded by the Office of Community Oriented Police Services (COPS) Hiring Program (culminating to CHP), the WPPD achieved what, for the longest time, seemed like a pipe dream, said WPP Chief Tim Brinkley.

Growth Alliance encourages community response to C Spire

In words of folk legend Bob Dylan, “You better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone, for the times, they are a changin’,” at least that’s how West Point Growth Alliance Director Cynthia Wilson looks at it. As such, Wilson and the Growth Alliance are actively promoting C Spire’s newly announced 1-gigabit fiber to home initiative, in hopes of keeping West Point up to speed on changing technology and more competitive in the world of economic development.
