Hebron Christian welcomes winless, scoreless Strider for Homecoming

PHEBA – Streaks abound in tonight’s MAIS eight-man contest as Hebron Christian holds a three-game home losing streak hosting a visiting Strider Academy that is nursing two negative streaks, as well.
A 16-game losing period that began on Aug. 17, 2012, against Hebron in Pheba is coupled with a five game scoreless streak in the 2013 season as the Rams are unable catch a break on the gridiron.

Oak Hill looks to capitalize in October

The month of October brings cooler temperatures, colorful leaves and the beginning of the fall season with Halloween.
Outside of these autumn occurrences, the Oak Hill Raider football team knows that October brings increasingly important football games if the Raiders want to return to the MAIS Class-AA playoffs in November this season.
“It’s definitely important to get a good start tonight, hopefully this will be an October to remember,” Oak Hill second-year head coach Daniel Merchant said about his team rising to the occasion this month.

West Point hosts rising Clarksdale

Henry Johnson, head coach of the Clarksdale Wildcats, is excited about the upcoming match-up his team has drawn in week seven of the MHSAA football season.
For the first-year Clarksdale coach, the chance to compete with the West Point Green Wave will be an excellent measuring tool for his team.

Mildred Louise Robertson - Blanchard

Mildred Louise Robertson - Blanchard, age 55 died on September 26, 2013 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Robert S. Traylor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in West Point, MS. Visitation will be held no Friday, October 4, 2013 at Carter’s Mortuary Services Chapel from 3 - 6:00 p.m.. Carter’s Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

C Spire to build $20 million center in Golden Triangle

Golden Triangle Development LINK CEO Joe Max Higgins may not know all the ins and outs of high technology, but he knows a good thing when he sees it.
That's what he told a crowd of local officials and community leaders Thursday before C Spire announced it would build a $20 million data processing center at the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park.
"Most of you will be like me," Higgins said. "You don't understand it, but you know it's a big deal."

Ole Miss Chancellor campaigns in West Point

The University of Mississippi is hoping to spread the word about new in-state recruitment initiatives in the Golden Triangle, and as part of the campaign, Chancellor Dan Jones made stops Thursday in West Point and Columbus.
Among the items for discussion, Jones addressed some of the difficulties faced by higher learning institutions, including tuition increases, which he said sometimes hindered student opportunity, particularly in Mississippi. However, he said Ole Miss had implemented programs to help ensure Mississippi residents were afforded the opportunity of a college education.

Man arrested on meth charges

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics arrested Horace “Clay” OBrian, 41, of Clay County on two counts of sale of methamphetamine. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated that the arrest was a result of a six-month investigation and more arrests are expected in the case.
“We can’t get too deep into the details,” said Scott.

Man shot in attempted robbery

At about midnight Thursday officers of the West Point Police Department were dispatched to an apartment complex on Dunlap Road in reference to gunshots being fired. Upon arrival officers discovered a man, whose name is not being released, lying face down on the ground. He suffered from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
