January 31, 2013

Though the Raiders are out of district play until next week, head coach Brian Middleton and his Oak Hill team is setting to tune up against Carroll Academy.
On Tuesday night, the Raiders took a gritty road win over Lamar School 42-39 as they were looking to bounce back after two weekend losses against North Delta and Canton Academy. It was a tough, well-earned win as Oak Hill needed a pick up before the start of district tournament.

Yarber: The value of pre-need planning

January 31, 2013

Are you a planner? Remember how people prepared for Y2K, the beginning of the millennium year 2000. Computers had been representing the year with only two digits instead of four digits which could cause the computer systems to interpret 00 as 1900 instead of 2000. This would mess up all major industries including utilities, banking, manufacturing, telecom, and airlines. While companies spent billions of dollars preparing their systems, some people built shelters and others stocked imperishable food items, plus batteries and oil for lamps, and other things considered essential for survival.

Brinkley: A mad dash to nowhere

January 31, 2013

There is nothing that makes us get in a bigger hurry than when trouble gets on our trail. Trouble has a way of making us freak out. Trouble can even make us give up on life. That’s one of the reasons Satan uses trouble to break us down.
I’m trying to get you to see that trouble has a way of finding us but GOD has a way of redeeming us. Trouble has a way of trapping us but GOD has a way of the saving us. You can run but you can’t hide from trouble. It has your name. Trouble has your number.

New police cruisers arrive

January 31, 2013

Imagine just how much wear and tear your vehicle would suffer if it was driven almost nonstop every single day of the week. Now ask yourself about how much you would be out of pocket in maintenance expenses trying to keep that car in operation.
Luckily most folks don’t have to worry about such a thing, but every few years law enforcement administrators find themselves having to replace many police cruisers that suffer damage from being on the road 24 hours a day.

OHA’s elementary curriculum lays the foundation for college

January 31, 2013

Oak Hill Academy Counselor Francis Dawkins says that when the state backed off raising the number of credits required for graduation in English, Math, Science and Social Studies, OHA did no such thing.
In fact, the West Point academy raised its standards to above the national average for credits required for graduation.
“Students need that in order to be successful in college,” Dawkins said on Thursday morning. “They need to be pushed because that’s what’s going to happen in college.”
