There has never been a shortage of news in West Point and Clay County in the past.
2012, however, proved to distinguish itself as far as newsworthy stories are concerned.
This year was truly a banner year for this community, as we saw the West Point/Clay County Growth Alliance forge a partnership with the Columbus/Lowndes Development LINK in the Spring, which by September had inspired leaders in Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha Counties to drive toward an economic partnership that would encompass the entire Golden Triangle region.

It was the final game for the Lady Wave in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament as West Point took on a very tough Heritage Academy. It was the third game in a three day span that maybe left the Lady Wave with little in the gas tank.
West Point was held to only one Qiayon Bailey basket during the first quarter and failed to ever return into contention with the Lady Patriots. Heritage Academy went on to have full control of the contest and never let the Lady Wave ever get close. The Lady Patriots defeated West Point 44-33.

The Green Wave ended their two week hiatus Saturday December 29 in Booneville on the campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College. West Point took on the Blue Devils of Booneville High School. The Blue Devils are the current 3-A runner-up and one of the favorites to win the 3-A state championship.
Let's be honest. How many of us really make it through an entire 12 month-period and actually reach the goals we set for ourselves for the new year?
You know the routine. Come the last week in December, we grab a pen and a piece of paper, ink down our resolutions for the upcoming new year and walk away confidently with our shoulders thrown back and chins lifted, determined that we will meet those goals if it's the last thing we do.
West Pointâs Secret Santa is calling it quits.
It is a most regretful decision for Darlene Cox, who has walked countless miles of West Point streets for the past eight years, collecting Christmas gifts for the needy children of this community.
Already documented is the fact that Coxâs December 21, 2012 Secret Santa giveaway at Marshall Park turned to chaos, as gifts designated for three specific needy families were grabbed up by the unruly crowd.
The city of West Point issued a Boil-Water Alert Friday for customers who receive their drinking water from their water supply located in Clay County.
This affects approximately 40 customers on East Broad Street.
Water system officials notified the Mississippi State Department of Health of a pressure loss due to construction.
Hard work certainly does pay off as evidenced Thursday night by the Criminal Investigation Division of the West Point Police Department, which arrested one individual from Mississippi in connection to the recent bomb threats in the city.
After an intensive investigation by the WPPD, in cooperation with federal law enforcement agencies and several wireless service providers, police were able to nab a suspect, whose identity and place of incarceration is not being disclosed at this time.
