Susan Rebecca Dragoo Howell age 89, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, at her home in West Point.
Susan Rebecca Dragoo Howell was born September 5, 1923, in Muncie, Indiana, Delaware County, to the late Helen Madgaline Bader and Thomas Ephriam Dragoo. Susan Howell graduated from Yorktown Indiana High School. She came to Clay County in 1963, from Muncie, Indiana. Mrs. Howell was a Private Secretary and Bookkeeper for John H. Bryan for Homes. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
Ralph Hickman â€śBubbaâ€ť Elliott age 60, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his home, in Cedar Bluff. Ralph â€śBubbaâ€ť Elliot was born June 9, 1952, in Clay County, to the late Birdie Ruth Reid and Ralph H. Elliott Sr. He was the owner of Elliott Trucking contracted with FedEx Ground for over 20 years. He was a member of the Christian Church. Ralph Hickman â€śBubbaâ€ť Elliott married Susan Marie Jordan Elliott January 30, 1972, in West Point.
Though scheduled to face Winston Academy, the Lady Wave opened up the Immanuel Christmas tournament against the host Lady Rams of Immanuel Christian School in the early morning game that tipped off at 9:45 a.m. Thursday.
West Point opened the first quarter with great controlled defense and outstanding half-court offense, allowing for the Lady Wave to open up an early 7 point lead. The Lady Wave never looked back after the first quarter, and absolutely dominated Immanuel with their largest lead at 24 points during the fourth quarter. West Point cruised to an easy victory 52-29.
Approximately 906 customers in Clay County are now under a boil water notice, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The notice issued on Thursday morning warns customers under the Siloam Water Association No. 3-Beasley Well to boil their water before drinking.
A check valve malfunction produced a system-wide pressure loss.
Johnny Smith Simmons, age 64, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Jackson, Funeral services are Friday, December 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, December 27, 2012, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home.

Henry Wright, age 93, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Floy Dyer Nursing Home in Houston.
Funeral services are Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem M.B. Church in Houston. Burial will follow in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Dr. Robert T. Lott, 81, died, on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his home, in West Point.
Robert Townsend Lott was born December 16, 1931, in Kilmichael, Miss. to the late Glynn Aileen Townsend and Yancy Marion Lott, Sr.
Dr. Lott was a Family Physician in General Surgery Practice from 1956 until 2002. He had also served as a Doctor in the United States Air Force and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Essary Lott in 1963.Â Dr. Lott married Carolyn Ann Vickers on May 19, 1964.

As Christmas has passed and the Holiday season is still in full swing, many high schools are hosting tournaments during the coming week. Three West Point teams will make the trip over to Columbus to play in the Immanuel Christmas Tournament hosted by Immanuel Christian School.
The Immanuel Christmas Tournament boasts strong teams from the MAIS and MHSAA and should be a very entertaining and challenging event for all West Point three teams participating.
West Point Lady Wave
Weather reports indicate that a low-pressure system will cause thunderstorms, some possibly severe, on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service is warning that the system will begin to move in the early-morning hours, with showers starting to fall at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
By mid-afternoon, some of the storms may become severe throughout the state, although weather reports indicate that most of the severe weather will occure below Interstate 20.
However, Clay County residents need to be prepared for severe weather that may include tornados, hail or damaging winds.
