Mary Ann Dahlem Beckwith
Mary Ann Dahlem Beckwith, age 64, passed away, Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Community Hospice, in Verona, Miss. Mary Ann Beckwith was born June 14, 1947, in Aberdeen, Miss., to the late Eva Lee Willis Mask Dahlem and Collie Kristopher Dahle. Mrs. Beckwith worked on the support staff as a secretary for Watkins, Ward Stafford CPA, from July 1982 until Aug., 2011, and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Beckwith was a graduating member of the Class of 1965 at Aberdeen High School. She loved her cats and dogs.

It was obvious from the sidelines that West Point is happy where they are right now.
After a perfect 4-0 start in district play, who wouldnât be?
The Green Wave scored 47 unanswered points Friday night, on their way to convincing 47-7 win over Saltillo to remain atop the district standings and move to 5-3 on the season.
âWe played hard, weâre improving everyday,â West Point head coach Chris Chambless said after the Green Wave earned their fourth consecutive win. âWe just go to get to that point where we make zero mistakes, we donât miss any blocks or any tackles.â
A 4-3 record may not seem like much to most on paper, but for Hebron Christian, Friday nightâs 24-6 win over Calhoun Academy made a clear statement the Eagles football program is headed in the right direction.
Head coach Tri Nason talked all week about the importance in having a winning season, and the players bought into it.
âOne hundred percent,â he said. âI count this season as a success even though we are 4-3. We could easily be 6-1. And on top of that we did what most people said what we wouldnât do and that was win more than a couple of games.â
October 13th
As the Division 1-5A schedule turns the corner and heads for home, the West Point High School football team finds itself in a familiar spot:
Undefeated within the district, and in control of the division race entering the homestretch.
Since joining the division in 2008, West Point is a perfect 19-0 against district opponents, and are outscoring division foes by an average of 21 points in that span.
Tonight, the two-time defending state champs will look to continue their stranglehold on Division 1-5A when they host Saltillo for homecoming, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Hebron can write their own history this week.
The Eagles finish the 2011 season tonight at home against Calhoun Academy and although it doesnât have any playoff implications, in some ways it feels like it does.
âWe have a shot at a winning season,â head coach Tri Nason said. âThatâs more than any other teams have had since Iâve been here. Friday night we get to write our own history. Are we going to be the team that starts getting Hebron on the right track thatâs winning, or are we going to
fall in âalmost there but not quite.ââ
Itâs come down to one moment, one chance to qualify. No restarts or do overs. And for five young athletes on the West Point Swimming team, they want to make the most of it.
Saturday, Kelsey Redus, Isabel Facella, Jessica Farr, Abby Scott and alternate Katie Wilson will don their swimming caps and hit the pool at Courthouse Racquet and Fitness in Flowood for the MHSAA North State championships.
West Point, known for football and basketball prospects over the years, has had swimmers make it this far, but this is a first for these girls and they want to make the most of it.

Doris Bowen
Doris Bowen, age 84, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, in West Point.
Doris Bowen was born Sept. 30, 1927, to Lonnie âLonâ Brewer and Esther Wehrman Brewer in Aberdeen. She lived most of her life in Aberdeen and fifteen years in West Point. Mrs. Bowen graduated from Wren High School. She retired after 31 years as a switch board operator and receptionist at Bryan Foods and she also worked as a telephone operator. Mrs. Bowen was a member of Aberdeen First Baptist Church.
Helen Mahadai Jagnandan
Helen Mahadai Jagnandan, age 84, entered into rest Saturday, Oct. 9, 2011, at University Hospital of Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services are Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paul Sherwood officiating.
Visitation is Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors of Augusta, Ga.

West Point put themsleves firmly in the drivers seat Friday night, now all they have to do is keep their foot on the gas.
The Green Waveâs ground and pound offense was unstoppable as they ran for 419 total yards in a 37-19 5A Region 1 victory over Clarksdale to move to 3-0 in district play and remain the lone undefeated team after New Hope lost to Hernando.
It was the second long road trip for the Green Wave in the last three weeks.
Hebron Christian had an almost perfect performance Friday night, arguably their best on the season.
The Eagles (4-3) had 363 yards of total offense and scored on four of the first five drives in the first half on their way to a 52-6 victory over Flint Hill on homecoming night.
Head coach Tri Nason said it was a complete team effort in the victory as the Eagles halted a two-game skid in front of a large crowd at home.
