Floyd Perry

Floyd Perry, age 57, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Funeral services are Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 1 p.m. from Union Star M.B. Church, with the Rev. Billie Joe Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Union Star M.B. Church Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 2 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Gwendolyn Stevens Chandler, born Aug. 28, 1923, in Hillsboro, Ore., passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 of natural causes. Her husband, Creighton Chandler Sr. Esq. of West Point, preceded her in death March 31, 1984.

Robert Allen Spencer

Robert Allen Spencer, age 58, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus.
Robert Allen Spencer was born Oct. 1, 1953, in West Point, to the late Katie Irene Strickland and Nickolas N. Spencer. He was a grocery and produce manager. Mr. Spencer was of the Baptist faith.

Voncile Anderson ‘Bonnie’ McNeece

Voncile Anderson ‘Bonnie’ McNeece, age 91, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Voncile Anderson ‘Bonnie’ McNeece was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Fayette, Ala., to the late C.A. and Mary Monasco Anderson. She was a member of Calvery Baptist Church in West Point.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Robinson Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery in Amory.

West Point drops a pair of games at West Point Classic

West Point hit the hardwood for the first time this season, unfortunately both the girls and boys teams lost to Starkville in the West Point Classic.

The girls fell 57-48 before the boys were downed 81-56.

A complete recap of the girls game will be in Sunday's edition of the Daily Times Leader. The boys will be featured in Tuesday's edition.

Moving on - West Point takes down Trojans 56-20

The West Point Green Wave moved one week closer to Jackson Friday night with a convincing 56-20 over New Hope in district play.

The victory paces them at 6-1 and a second place finish in the district which means a first round matchup with Neshoba Central next Friday at home at 7 p.m.

Hebron falls to Starkville Academy 61-25

November 3, 2011

COLUMBUS - Hebron Christian falls to 2-3 after Thursday night's loss to Starkville Academy 61-25.

Down 41-11 at the half, the Lady Eagles were held to just two points before finally getting back in the ball game in the fourth.

The Lady Eagles went on a 9-4 run with seven points by Tori Nichols to cut the deficit to 30 with 4:30 left to play.

The Lady Vols held on for the win and gave up just three points down the stretch.

Hebron hosts Grace Christian next Monday.

Protect this house - West Point (5-1) hosts New Hope in regular season finale

As far as West Point High School’s football season finale goes, head coach Chris Chambless has had a simple message for his football team this week:

“It’s time to finish what we’ve started.”

And what the Green Wave have started has led to an opportunity at a third straight division championship.

Tonight, that’s exactly what West Point will be aiming for when they host New Hope in the final regular season game of the 2011.
