On the heels of the team’s first victory in 2011, West Point (1-2) will have another tough hurdle when they hit the road for the second time this season at Noxubee County.
Last week, the Green Wave used a dominating second half effort from its defense and a balanced attack on offense to earn a 33-12 win over visiting Starkville who handed them their only loss a year ago.
As many as six players will be out for Oak Hill in tonight’s non conference slate versus Winona Christian. It’s been an issue for the read and white since fall camp.
Head coach Benjie Merchant and his staff have been forced to reshuffle positions all year long.
“It’s killing us,” he said. “We get one back, we lose anther one.”
Third string quarterback Adam Tumey, a new addition to the squad will be taking the snaps. Last season he played cornerback.
“He’s got a good arm and good throwing motion, just lack of experience at the position,” Merchant said.
With Hebron Christian School on the verge of a district title, Tuesday’s 12-1 victory over Calhoun Academy clinched a fifth consecutive playoff appearance for the Lady Eagles.
A landmark in itself, but for pitcher Chloe Tapley, it solidified her as one of the best pitchers in the MAIS.
Tapley again had another stellar outing in the circle, just three hits given up to compliment 13 strikeouts.
Nothing new for the junior, who over the last few weeks had pitched three straight no-hitters.
