Meredith Perry Blanks
Meredith Perry Blanks, age 85, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
Funeral services are Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hermon M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Family hour is Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, from 5 â 6 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.
Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Head coach Chris Chambless says his guys knows what is expected of them.
âItâs one thing I can never complain about them and thatâs their work ethic,â he said. âThey know there is no room for laziness and know that itâs a privilege to play. They work hard everyday and know there is a sacrifice to it. If theyâre going to step on the field, theyâre going to give it 100 percent.â

Sophomore Maegen Ellis kept opposing hitters off balance all night throwing a no-hitter while striking out seven and giving up just one walk.
"She threw great game overall," head coach Marion Bratton said. "She started off a little bit rough in the first inning, she just couldn't find the plate."

Last Spring, Hebron Christian School was preparing for an 11-man football season.
Now the Eagles will be forced to drop down and play eight-man. With just 11 players on the roster, Hebron made the call last Thursday and informed MAIS officials they were playing 8-man this fall, something they haven't done in years.
Head coach Tri Nason, said enrollment is not an issue.
"We just don't have the manpower, " he said. "We have the guys in school to play, they are just not playing."
Charles H. Ballard
Charles H. Ballard, age 68, passed away, July 30, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point.
Charles H. Ballard was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Sturgis, Miss., to the late Fannie Mae and Lester Ballard.
He was a member of East End Baptist Church in Columbus, Miss., and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Alice Faye Hodge Jan. 24, 1969, at the family home in Sturgis, Miss. He worked for Purolator and more recently, nine years for Columbus Brick.
Mamie Allen didn't have the stuff she displayed in Oak Hill's season opening win over Heritage Academy last Friday, but then again, she really didn't need it.
Oak Hill rallied for three runs in the third inning Monday night to pick up their second consecutive win over an MAIS Class AAA school after defeating Starkville (1-3) Academy 4-1.
"It was an ugly win," head coach Marion Bratton said. "But we made some plays when we had to. Our selection on some of our choices for outs wasn't quite what we practiced."
Alonso, Gerhart Engagement
Tony and Leah Alonso of West Point, Miss., are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Katherine Blair Alonso, to Robert Stuart Gerhart III, son of Stuart and Nan Gerhart of Millport, Ala.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Milford and Johanna Forrest of West Point, Marvin and Mary Jones of Aberdeen, Miss., and Hector Alonso of San Jose, Calif.
She is a 2009 graduate of West Point High School and attended East Mississippi Community College.
Hunt, Lucas Engagement
Tony and Jeanie Hunt of Caledonia, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Haley Michelle Hunt, to Justin Paul Lucas, son of Douglas and Martha Lucas of Tupelo.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Garland and Perval Hunt of West Point.
She is a 2011 graduate of Caledonia High School, where she was a member of the Beta Club and participated in the Caledonia High School Band.
