The City of West Point smashed a grand slam over the weekend after a successful Dizzy Dean softball tournament.
“Anytime we can bring people in our town and spend a little money in our restaurants and hotels and give the community a little enjoyment, it’s always a success,” Parks and Recreation director James Crowley said.
There were a few weather delays over the weekend and the tournament started with just seven teams after one dropped out before Thursday. West Point’s 12U all-stars were eliminated on Saturday while Bruce took home the championship.
Steady hands and a good eye are key when shooting a bow or rifle.
Saturday, four Clay County natives, Curtis Smith, Heather Wilson, Elizabeth Nolan and Kelsey Blackford, will put their nerves to the test when they take on the best in the state at the 2011 Mississippi 4-H Shooting Sports State Invitational. Smith and Nolan are shooting the compound bow while Blackford shoots recurve and Wilson will fire a
.22 rifle.
Ware, Smith Wedding
Emily Ware and Neal Ray Smith Jr., were united in marriage Monday, June 27, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. in a small, private ceremony on the beach overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, at Orange Beach, Ala. The minister Glenn Henson officiated the ceremony.
Parents of the bride are Teresa and Durwood Ware.
The bride was given in marriage by her daughter, Faith Christine Coggins.
She carried a bouquet of Gerber Daisies.
Parents of the groom are Linda Odom Smith and Neal Ray Smith Sr.
The best man was Mitchell Hunter Smith, son of the groom.
Scott, Dent Engagement
Jannie Davis of West Point is pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of her niece, Octavia G. Scott, niece of the late Joseph Davis, to Johnny L. Dent, son of Betty Wilson of West Point and the late Ricky Wilson.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Rev. Alfred and Lula Gage.
She is a 1992 graduate of West Point High School and is a 2006 graduate of East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew with an Associates Degree in Medical Office Technology.
She is currently employed with H&R Block.
