Dozens of cowboys and cowgirls will be strapping their steers and dusting their hats in preparation for the Mcllwain Junior Rodeo this Saturday at Rockin' Mc Arena in Cedar Bluff on the farm of Jim and Vicki Mcllwain.
Saturday's event is the third in a summer series of rodeos that will be held once a month until August.
Vicki says there are a lot of kids in the area that are interested in participating in rodeos and this is a perfect way to come out and have fun.
The Benjie Merchant era has officially begun at Oak Hill Academy.
Tuesday evening, coach Merchant and his new staff were introduced to several parents and students at the football field.
Merchant, a Laurel native, said the opportunity to come back closer to home was just too good to miss.
âThe passion for Mississippi football is like no other,â he said. âI missed that.â
Oak Hill headmaster Bill Miley said the school is very excited to have him on board.
Thousands of dollars are being saved by the city of West Point with the use of propane auto gas in its police vehicles instead of gasoline, which is benefitting the environment and helping the city's economy.
The announcement came Wednesday about the conversion of eight 2009 West Point police cruisers from gasoline to bi-fuel propane from police chief Bobby Lane, assistant chief Avery Cook, mayor Scott Ross and Mark Denton, vice president of business development for Alliance AutoGas.
Shayne McClure, 48, passed away, on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the North MS Medical Center,
in West Point. Michael Shayne McClure was born December 24, 1962 in West Point, Mississippi to Phyllis McLemore
Murphy and Walter Raymond McClure, III. Shayne worked at Sanderson Plumbing as a Shuttle Driver and before at
Bryan Foods a number of years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Shayne McClure married Cynthia
Genevieve Elkins on December 6, 1986, in West Point.
Scott Moore, age 42, of Macon, died Monday June 6, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus.
Funeral services are Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Macon. Interment will be in Moore Cemetery near Macon. Visitation is today, at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, from 6 - 8 p.m.

John "Johnny" Bush
John âJohnnyâ Bush, age 62, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011.
Funeral Services are Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. from the Bryan Union Hall in West Point, with the Rev. Eddie D. Goliday officiating. Burial will follow in Truevine Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 1 â 6 p.m. at West Memorial Funeral Home in Starkville.
