The West Point High School boys basketball team wrapped up another solid camp last week at Itawamba Community College.
With three teams in the field, the Green Wave had plenty of chances to showcase their talents on the floor against some of the top teams in the region including Okolona, Tupelo, Hamilton and Shannon.

Edwards, Davenport Engagement
Mrs. Earline Edwards of West Point, is pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of her daughter, Yolanda A. Edwards, daughter of the late James Monroe Edwards Sr., to Wavie C. Davenport Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Wavie C. Davenport Sr., of Prairie.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Willie and LeAnna Gibson and the late Aaron and Essie Edwards.
Crosswhite, Doxey Engagement
Dr. and Mrs. Ronnie Crosswhite of Tupelo, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Megan Elise Crosswhite, to Ralph Hindman Doxey Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Doxey of Holly Springs.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Crosswhite of Prairie and the late Mr. Joe T. Crosswhite and Mrs. Jimmie Faye Knox of Houston and the late Mr. Melvin Jack Knox.
Stafford. Oakes Engagement
Wanda Moore of West Point, and James L. Stafford of Columbus, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jena Noel Stafford, to Kenneth Oakes, son of Timothy and Marian Oakes of West Point.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Clara and Jerry Castle of West Point, Nan Ricket of Columbus, and James Lee Stafford of West Point.
She holds an Associate's degree in Elementary Education and is continuing her education at Mississippi University for Women.
She is currently employed with Carl Hogan Automotive.
Floyd Chenney
Floyd Chenney, 82, passed away Thursday, June 23, at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Louisville, MS, on May 4, 1929. He graduated from Maben High School in 1947 as president of his class. Moving to Starkville, he was in the wholesale grocery business, retiring in 1998.
Floyd and his wife, Ann, were married in West Point on June 14, 1952, by John Murphree. Floyd was a member of the Church of Christ where he had served as an elder, song director, teacher and chair of the benevolence ministry.
With the Aug. 2 primary election a little over a month away, the Clay County Circuit Clerk’s Office is busy sending out absentee voting applications to residents unable to vote on election day, and absentee voting is expected to begin soon.
Residents who receive absentee voting applications must complete the form and have it notarized at the Circuit Clerk’s Office unless the absentee voter is temporarily or permanently disabled. If the absentee voter is temporarily or permanently disabled, the application must be signed by a witness who is 18 years of age or older.
