Internet Cafe Owners Lose Rights to Computer Equipment

An attempt by owners of Paradise Isle Internet Cafe of West Point to retrieve computer equipment that was confiscated from the cafe failed Tuesday after the Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld a decision by the Clay County Circuit Court.
On Sept. 12, 2007, the Mississippi Gaming Commissions seized 39 computer terminals, a computer server and a point-of-sale system that agents believed to be illegal gaming devices. The State charged Ronnie Moore and Jeff Moore in connection with the internet cafe and the computers, which the State believed were actually slot machines.

West Point Softball Starts District Play at Home

The West Point Lady Wave fast-pitch softball team will begin the district portion of its season, with a home match against New Hope, starting this evening at 5 p.m.

Eagles hit the road to face Rams

The Hebron Christian Eagles have been struggling of late, but they will try to get back in the win column, in district play, tonight as they travel a small piece to face the Rams of Immanuel.
The Eagles are coming off three straight losses, which started with a district loss to Winona on Tuesday and continued with losses to the Jackson Victors on Thursday and the Central Academy Vikings on Friday night.
The Eagles won their first season match with the Rams back on March 1, scoring 21 runs, including a home run by senior Kevin Simmons in the game.

Raiders to host Carroll in district clash

The Oak Hill Academy Raiders did not get off to a great start in district play when they faced Manchester Academy three times last week. Manchester put up 46 runs in the three games, as Oak Hill dropped to 0-3 in conference play to start the league portion of the 2011 season.
Tonight, the Raiders will attempt to refocus to better their chances for a playoff berth, when they take on the struggling Rebels of Carroll Academy.
The Raiders have been on and off so far this season, with the bats heating up at times, and going cold at others.

Diamond Wave split pair on Saturday, ready for New Hope

The Diamond Wave baseball team at West Point played four games last week. The team escaped the week with a 2-2 split in the games, including a 1-1 split in district action against the Tigers of Saltillo.
Tonight, the Green Wave squad will hit the diamond again, this time taking on New Hope at the Trojans’ house.

Rupert Murder Charge Pending Dismissal

One count of the indictment of Robert Rupert, who is charged with capital murder, aggravated assault and murder, may be dismissed due to rights violations and time conflicts, as the April Clay County Circuit Court term approaches.
Rupert is charged with one count of capital murder for allegedly killing Roosevelt Pernell on or around Dec. 4, 2003 and is charged with one count of aggravated assault for allegedly shooting Cedric Pernell around the same time. The third count, which is in question, is a charge from the July 24, 1994 murder of Carlos Carr that Rupert allegedly committed.

June Edwards Drummond went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 20, 2011, while being hospitalized at Northeast Mississippi Medical Center after a long and valiant battle with heart disease.
She was born June 1, in Tupelo, and married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, William Drummond, for 30 years.
