Ann Winters Littleton

Ann Winters Littleton, age 80, passed away, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 at the McGraw Center-Community Hospice, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Ann Winters Littleton was born May 14, 1930, in Greenwood, Miss., to the late Pearlie Mae Corker and Samuel Winters. She moved to Jacksonville Beach, Fla., June 1, 2010. Mrs. Littleton was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of West Point. She was a member of Martha Chapter #53 Order ofthe Eastern Star. Ann Winters Littleton married Harlan Eugene Littleton July 23, 1955, Greenwood, Miss., who predeceased her May 15, 2001.

Prophet Johnny Lee Chambers, 66, passed away, Thursday, February 17, 2011 at his home,
in West Point, Mississippi. Johnny Lee Chambers was born December 4, 1944 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to the late Lucille
Elizabeth Hargus and Noah Arlie Chambers and Prophet Chambers was a International Evangelist. He was of the Non-
Denominational faith. Johnny Lee Chambers married Margaretta Priscilla Ware Chambers on November 19, 2005, Tuscaloosa, AL.

Hebron girls to face Delta Academy today

The only playoff loss for the Hebron Christian Lady Eagles in 2011 was to Sharkey-Issaquena, a team out of the Delta, on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles will get a chance to rebound against another team from that region today, when they face the girls of Delta Academy.
Hebron faces Delta after one of its best defensive battles of the season against Newton on Monday. The Lady Eagles prevailed 45-22 in that game.
The Lady Eagles allowed four points in the first, seven in the second, six in the third and five in the fourth to Newton’s offense.

Green Wave rallies to force overtime, falls 72-60 to Gentry

The West Point Green Wave boys showed what they are made of on Tuesday night. Playing down for most of regulation during their bout with the Gentry Rams, West Point embarked on a gutsy fourth quarter performance that pushed the game into an overtime quarter.
Unfortunately for the Green Wave, the Rams refocused and took the North State playoff game 72-60.
“They never quit,” said West Point head coach Brad Cox. “They could have gotten down on themselves and given up, but they never did.”

The funeral service for Donald W. Boatwright will be held Friday, February18th, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS with burial at Oddfellows Cemetery. Dr. Danny Rowland will conduct the service. Visitation will be held Friday, February 18th from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Thora Mae Chandler, age 90, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Miss.
Funeral services are Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. from Lower Prairie Creek Church in Mantee, Miss., with the Rev. Sammie Beckum officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

Neediam Richardson Jr., age 75, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.,
Funeral services are Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at 1 p.m. from Zion Hill M.B. Church in Macon, Miss., with the Rev. Henry Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, from 3 – 6 p.m. from Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.

West Point season ends after 67-48 loss to Lady Rams

Last Friday, the West Point Lady Green Wave basketball team (20-5) secured the district title and a home playoff game. In order to advance further, they had to go through the Lady Rams of Indianola-Gentry.
The Delta powerhouse came to visit on Monday night, delivering a tough, season-ending loss to the West Point girls, by a score of 67-48.

Oak Hill girls head to AA State Tourney

The Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders are in the AA State Tournament. The girls secured the No. 3 spot out of North State with a 46-40 Monday night win over Simpson Academy.
The Lady Cougars got the benefit of a dozen missed free throws from the Lady Raiders, in the first half, but they were unable to make it last, scoring a combined 18 points in the second half.
Coming off a 44-26 loss to Kirk on Saturday, the Lady Raiders stayed alive in the playoffs with the win over Simpson.

Eagles’ season ends in overtime battle

The Hebron Christian School Eagles hoops team made a valiant effort to keep their state tournament hopes alive on Monday. Unfortunately for the Hebron boys, Heidelberg Academy’s team was able to outlast them with a 51-44 overtime win.
“The guys played really well,” said Hebron head coach Greg Watkins. “We were one shot away from being in the quarter finals. These boys worked hard and achieved a whole lot over the course of the year.”
