It was quite a flashback in time, but the West Point High School football team did take a trip to the 80’s Friday night.
The Wave used a trio of 80-yard rushing plays, two by QB DeQuinton Spraggins, one by tailback Tez Lane, to earn a 31-21 win over the homestanding Oxford Chargers.
Spraggins broke loose and rushed for 221 yards on 11 carries, which
included an 82-yard touchdown run and an 87-yard sprint to set up another score.
A three-vehicle crash that occurred just after 8 a.m. on Friday morning claimed two lives, including one West Point man.
David Malone, 63, who was driving a 1997 GMC truck, and Keona Fields, 25, who was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, were both killed after a head-on collision that occurred just east of the river bridge.
According the officials with the Miss. Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just east of the Tenn-Tom Waterway bridge, yards away from the Clay County line of the Lowndes County side of the river.
