With just a week left to go in the regular season, every game is huge for the West Point Green Wave basketball team. Tonight, they will welcome in another district rival, taking on the Tigers of Saltillo, in a battle for first place.
“It’s a district game,” West Point Brad Cox said. “Right now, we’re in a three-way tie for first place.”

On December 17, the West Point Lady Green Wave played the Lady Tigers of Saltillo for the first time, defeating them for their first district win of the season.
Over a month has gone by, and the two teams are set to match up against one anther again tonight, this time in West Point.
With three teams battling for first place in the district, meaning a top seed at the upcoming district tournament, every district game is vital.
“It’s a huge game, a district game,” said head coach Jemmye Ann Helms. “We need to win that game.”

The West Point Green Wave basketball program will do battle with a district rival tonight, at home, against Saltillo. What should already be an emotionally charged game will be even more special, as five boys players and four girls players will be recognized during a pre-game senior night celebration.
The boys will be honoring Laquintis Robertson, Romeo Williams, Jamar Wicks, Jaquille White and Willie Edwards. The girls will be giving a nod to Kelsei Ewings, Chelsey Walls, Alexandria Morgan and Santonya Cantrell.
