It took West Point’s football team nearly three hours to get to Indianola for Friday night’s district opener against Gentry.
It took the West Point defense less than three minutes to take control of the game.
West Point forced Gentry to lose 13 yards on its first offensive possession and then tackled GHS punter Rufus Warren at his own 15-yard line, giving the Wave offense great field position and setting in motion a dominant performance in a 34-8 win.

Two weeks ago, the Oak Hill Academy Raiders were staring down a long tunnel, hoping to see some sort of light. The 0-4 record in the standings was not half as bad as walking off the field after a 61-6 loss to Leake.
They had turned the ball over four times, resulting in four scores. The roster, already small, was dwindling due to injuries. Then a little over a week ago, there came that light.

At times it was ugly.
The first half of Friday night’s conference battle between the Oak Hill Academy Raiders (2-4; 1-0) and the Carroll Academy Rebels (2-3; 0-1), at times, looked like a wild west shootout.
The two teams exchanged fire and they exchanged touchdowns. At the end of the third quarter, it looked like a sure win for the Raiders, but by the middle of the fourth, the Rebels shot their way back into the fray.
It went down to the wire, but Oak Hill finally won its second game of the season, a 45-41 victory over the Rebels.
