Make it two district wins for the Oak Hill Academy Raiders hoops team. Friday night’s 69-65 battle with Carroll marked the first division victory on the court for the Raiders, as Winston forfeited two weeks ago.
Oak Hill was coming off a pair of losses, including a district defeat to Manchester last week. The boys played a very intense Friday night match, holding off the Rebels through multiple rallies.
“We really wanted it tonight,” said Oak Hill head coach Brian Middleton. “I’m extremely proud.”

It mattered not who the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders (12-5; 3-0) put in Friday night’s district game against Carroll Academy. It was going to work.
Whether it was Paige Dawkins’ 10-point first quarter, Tori Ellis’ run in the second and third or the girls coming off the bench in the fourth, there was not stopping Oak Hill, which won the game 68-22.
“We have the ability to ware people down,” said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey, whose team has won eight straight. “I’m really proud of that bunch. They gave us a really good effort.”

Things might have started out slow for the West Point Lady Green Wave basketball team on Friday night, but thanks to senior Kelsei Ewings, West Point was able to overcome any early adversity to win their first district match against Saltillo 60-55.
Ewings would eventually end up with a season-high 29 points on the night.
Offensively, though, West Point got off to a bit of a slow start, scoring just seven points in the first quarter of play. They finished the quarter down 11-7.

A week after that, the team sent two representatives to the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game, along with head coach Chris Chambless, who served as the team’s defensive coordinator.
Tomorrow, West Point will have further all-star representation on the football field, as seniors Vontarrius Dora and Jaquille White head to Ocean Springs to play in the North-South game.

The West Point Lady Green Wave hoops team has been doing well as of late, sealing three wins in a row, leading up to district play.
That first district game is set to take place tonight, as the Lady Wave prepare to face Saltillo on the road.
Last Week, the girls hit the court for the first time against Noxubee County. Noxubee stayed in the game for all four quarters, but West Point prevailed in the end. The same was the case for last Friday night’s home game against Aberdeen.

Lady Eagles look to keep undefeated district record

December 16, 2010

The Hebron Christian Lady Eagles have been really good to start the 2010-2011 season. The only problem they have had lately is that they have played back-to-back games against two of the toughest opponents they might face this season.
The first of those contestants was the always dangerous Leake Academy girls. They were the first team to defeat Hebron this season, and they did that last Saturday.
The second defeat for the Lady Eagles came against a cross county competitor in Oak Hill Academy.
