Ross camp refutes allegations

November 6, 2010

The family of mayor Scott Ross and city officials lashed out at a report published Thursday, which contained allegations that were “Completely and utterly false,” according to a statement released by Brian Kelley, who serves as the mayor's attorney.
The article, published in the Columbus Packet, a weekly newspaper that serves the Golden Triangle area, stated that Ross is currently receiving treatment in the Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hattiesburg, a claim denied vehemently by Kelly and others connected to Ross.

The Hernando Tigers (7-5; 4-3) had to beat the West Point Green Wave (10-1; 7-0) on Friday night, in order to get into the playoffs. The Tigers felt good going into the half, trailing 7-0 to the red hot Wave, but hopes of a comeback were crushed by a stellar effort from LaKenderic Thomas in the second half.
West Point finished the night on top 21-14, sending Hernando home with its third district loss.
“They’re a good football team,” said West Point head coach Chris Chambless. “We knew they were going to give us their A-game and their best shot tonight.”

LaKenderic Thomas sure knows how to put the cap on a good season. The senior running back for the West Point Green Wave had a terrific night on the ground, accounting for 262 rushing yards on 26 carries.
Three of those 26 carries made it into the end zone for touchdowns, as he helped lead the Green Wave to a perfect district record in 2010.
“He’s a machine,” Chambless said. “He runs the ball extremely hard, and he has a great attitude. He keeps everybody pumped up and ready to go.”
